Indeed, act your wage or whatever book that was one of his first hits reads like most self help books with short sentences, repetitive themes, and a cheery “this is simple, you’re smart for reading” attitude.

There’s a huge gulf between those that take bad loans to buy cars and someone that is debt-free and have a million dollars in cash in the bank (if you have a million dollar of cash in a bank, you’re stupid, but that’s a different topic).

On the other hand. A woman I worked with asked her pastor whether she should cosign a load for her brother. After discussing the brother and her reasons for not wanting to do this he told her “ the Bible says thou shalt not cosign”.

Exactly. I’m one of those people who takes advantage of credit card rewards, which is another thing he’s against. But I also use it only for convenience and rewards and pay my bill off every month.

But if you are someone who is in debt, cutting up the credit cards is a good idea, the rewards aren’t worth it if you are…

I could either spend $300 on a new car or spend $300 a month (on average) fixing the Focus that’s still rusting in my garage which still can’t safely or reliably get to work in the morning. Agreed 100%. People talk about cars being “depreciating assets,” but it’s not an asset at all--it’s an expense. If you’re going to be paying the money at all, why not get what you want instead of a compromise?
