Pull my fingers.
My husband and I watched the Pee-Wee’s Playhouse with our toddler son back in the late 80's. It’s the only show we could both sit through and enjoy with him. I remember Laurence Fishburn as Cowboy Curis and Phil Hartman as Captain Carl and Miss Yvonne too. Clocky, Chairy and the Genie. Lots of fun memories we share…
And again in Gotham.
Pee-wee was just the most unique, incredible character. He was both creepy and weird but also adorable and loving at the same time. It was a tonal master class of character creation and acting
Don’t forget his work in “What we do in the shadows”
I’ll toast Paul Reubens with a shot of, what else but
I can still hear this!! “Oooh. Argh. Ouch. Eek.”
Pee Wee was so delightfully weird. Paul seemed like genuine guy who delighted in making a unique character that was so believable, people really thought it was him. He took an old hat chacterizaion that been around for ages (the boy who never grew up) and made him hilarious and nostalgic for simpler times.
By all accounts he was a super nice guy. This is a hard one.
The not so Secret Word is: FUCK CANCER
The word of the day is, "SHIT!"
I know most people remember him from “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” and his first movie (which is brilliant) but I’ll always remember him from his early appearances on "Late Night with David Letterman” where he was pure gold.
The world is a less funny place.
I’m so happy I got to meet Paul once. Truly one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. May peace be with him on his journey.
Such a damn shame. Amazing performer.
I am deeply thankful we got to revisit Pee-Wee in “Big Holiday”. It wasn’t as good as “Big Adventure” but it was a worthy follow-up.
Ugh, this hurts. LOVED Pee Wee. Was hooked when I saw his original HBO special and his Playhouse show was appointment TV. As an 80's kid, it’s hard to articulate just how huge of an impact Pee Wee had on me and all my friends. Very sad day.
Au Revoir Pee-Wee
