Just to be clear, Daniel Craig is the second best Bond so far. Doing a ‘Yeoman’s job’ is a compliment. But as he seems to want to go, and as he has not always been complimentary about the character, I am still happy to see him go.

You should.

I’m betting he’s out. He co=produced this one, so money is not an issue, and he is certainly making all the right noises for someone who is done. We’ll see.

There is actually quite a bit of backstory in the books, including physical descriptions (which are less important, and have not been adhered to by the films to date anyway). But his ancestry and his devotion to England are important. There has always been a subtext of ‘duty for God and country’ throughout the Bond

He would make a great spy, and has been great in creating the characters he has already played. Why not simply allow him to create his own character? There is a certain destructiveness to so drastically alter a character - and it has been done both successfully and poorly (ask DC Comics). I’ve never understood why

Thank you! His being a blue-eyed misogynist cold-war creation is exactly what makes the character interesting. That he was created by an British ex-naval intelligence officer who was bemoaning the rapid post-war decline of ‘the empire’ as a fantasy representation of a cultural icon is even better.

Idris Elba did a great job creating his character in ‘Luther’, and, of course, did a phenomenal job on ‘The Wire’ (I’m not up on his other work). But yes, I do think Bond has enough legacy back story that changing his race/gender/age would be silly, and for no good purpose. A common fan theory of the Bond universe is

Craig did a very good job with the character, so we don’t disagree much. And I completely agree with you on the rest.

I’ll be seeing it tonight, courtesy of Aston Martin. but I, for one, am happy to see Craig go. He did a yeoman’s job in the role, but his heart wasn’t in it - as can be expected from someone who has neither shot a gun or driven a manual transmission. As for who might be next, I am certainly not in the ‘diversity for

Today, on Jalopnik... Drama Queens versus Trailer Trash! And assumed politics! And Gratuitous ad hominem attacks! And regional stereotypes! And many, many clicks.

Rules don’t save everybody. Nothing does. Sorry for your loss, but as you have no idea of whom I’ve lost your sanctimonious response is at best just self-serving. I’m not here to preach, I accept there are people who love and rely on rules. I just think they are misguided (and sometimes very funny unintentionally).

This is the funniest thing I’ve read all week. Thanks!

Well.... I don’t care THAT much.

“I don’t care.” That says it all. For all the pretend policeman out there who are in any way blaming the biker, please explain how you can do the moral equivalency dance between passing in a no-passsing zone and attempted vehicular manslaughter. In answer to the driver, let me say what I DO care about: I care that he

Good. Frankly no electric car company should be given valuable parking real-estate. I don’t mind a state allowing Tesla (or anyone else) to put up charging stations on private property, but parking on public property should be non-denominational. Either that. or put a gas pump next to every spot as well.

Ooops, ‘Rod of God’

Did not mean to imply the issues are connected, nor that VW is doing worse in China than others. Just that it has been a very bad week.

Ahh! We’re on the same page.
