They did build it. They called it the SS. Then they canned it when Australian production ceased.

I agree I suppose, but you left out the low mileage and not messed with status. Also Age should be considered here. there are tons of 80's and 90's Mustangs and Camaros with sticks and over 200 hp available online. but man they are usually very well beat down by now.

With a really heavy clutch, I get it. That’s a pain in the ass in traffic. And by traffic I’m assuming hellish SF Bay Area kind of traffic. Crawling traffic where it takes you literally 3 hours to go 6 miles.

100% this, I’ve driven them in heavy traffic before, its fine, its muscle memory so you don’t really notice.

I wonder what % of people who specify no manual because of ‘traffic’ actually know how to drive a manual or have owned a manual before and feel like they have to give some bs excuse in order to not be perceived (in their mind or otherwise) as a ‘real’ enthusiast

Who on earth was going to buy a supra anyway?

Supra starts at 50k without the inevitable dealer markups, and maxes at about 60k. Optioned out it’s 55k. Assuming roughly equal dealer markups, why would you pay for a i6 front engined bmw-toyota with a hundred bhp less when for maybe 6-8k more you can get a mid-engined v8 with nearly 500bhp?

THIS is why I come here- to get deep dive stuff I can’t find other places. I have to say, I’m DEEPLY impressed by what the Corvette team have been able to make- especially under 60k. Think about it folks, it’s cheaper than a top end Camaro or mustang.  I’m stoked about this car.

Who on earth is going to buy a Supra now?

Also don’t forget maintenance. If you get into a fender bender then what? the entire car is totalled because you can’t spot-repair a single piece monocoque. Mechanics would need special equipment along with training. Remember when the F150s bed went aluminum and people went into a panic?

Weird Take:

But will it do good burnouts? My C5 auto did amazing burnouts with almost zero effort. One foot on the gas, one foot on the brake, and by like 2000rpm the rear tires were spinning up happily.

Oh, man. So the closest thing to this in a Porsche is probably a 718GTS— only 414HP, mid-engine, BASE version. That’s $99 Grand— and try to find a “base” Porsche anywhere.

Not only would it drive up the cost significantly, but mass-producing something so complicated might not even be possible (today).

As a 6MT Cayman owner, I agree. This is a great day for Jalops.

a Porsche Boxster is the official car of bald dudes that yell at their wives in public

Not without a manual, unfortunately.

What a weird argument to make. The C8 is something that every Jalop should be celebrating, regardless of your brand loyalty

That is a funny looking Miata.
