I guess I interpret those two words in a radically opposite manner from you. For actors and actresses, auditions for parts in movies and TV shows is the equivalent of interviewing for a job. The fact that an actress went for an audition that they thought was professional in no way suggests that they consented to the

I don’t see a big difference between auditioning and vetting in terms of agency. What I find creepy is the idea that the church would be taking a scenario that was framed as professional for these women (auditioning for a role is like a job interview, really) and using it in a crude attempt at religious indoctrination

IIRC it’s not even a crazy story, it’s actually true that the Church auditioned women to date Cruise. It might be false that Scarlett Johansson was one of them, but cults are weird and auditioning women to date celebrities are far from the weirdest stories to come out of Scientology.

They’re already sinking into that bullshit now. How many posts on this thread are castigating Chuck Schumer for disagreeing with Maxine Waters about confronting at Trump officials in the street? As if that matters at all. As if either side of that vapid fake civility debate has any impact on anything at all?

They have until January, so they don’t have to move particularly quickly. This is why voting in 2014 and 2016 was so important, of course. It’s too bad that progressives didn’t think women’s rights, voting rights, LGBT rights, and economic protections were worth the effort.

50 Cent attacks people on social media so often, you’d swear he was an unemployed 25-year-old living in his mother’s basement. So antagonistic is he that “50 Cent Mocks...” is practically an online headline subgenre.”

Yeah I don’t have a problem with a commission, I just have a problem with the OP, who tried to portray the bill as having a plan for what comes after dismantling ICE; per the text excerpted, the plan appears to be, “ask someone to come up with a plan” — which is essentially the same as saying that you don’t have a

Don’t be stupid. It’s definitely, totally normal to get engaged to someone you’ve been dating for eleven minutes.

Who is that?

I think he really doesn’t get that he isn’t liked. He thinks he has the same cultural cachet as David Letterman or Jerry Seinfeld.

He made a few public appearances earlier this year where he was mistaken for Melissa McCarthy in extremely authentic Sean Spicer dress for a few seconds. He chooses to remember the initial brief smiles and chuckles from the audience, not the subsequent scowling and hissing once he was recognized.

That message isn’t getting through consistently. Sometimes the crazies win, or they lose by a small margin that just emboldens them. Other candidates move towards the crazy position because they see that it got 48% of the vote last time.

I don’t have any objection to a commission reviewing the idea. I just think it’s ridiculous that people here consider “creating a committee to look into something” to be a solution, especially to a problem as long running and intractable as immigration. Our problem isn’t that there are no solutions to the immigration

IIRC, they already did. Since the decision regarding those districts was based on state law, not federal law, the SCOTUS declined to hear their challenge.

This case really reminds me of the horrifying Christopher Duntsch aka Dr Death, who had recently been convicted for maiming and killing several patients in Texas. He had gotten away with his bizarre medical practices and cruelty for years despite complaints.

We already have a commission that reviews and evaluated solutions to policy problems. It’s called Congress. We also have decades of debating immigration policy and dozens of possible approaches generated by politicians and think tanks and advocacy groups across the political spectrum. The problem isn’t that there

Actually, I’m jaded because in government creating a commission to look into an issue is commonly a way of kicking the can down the road and admitting that you haven’t spent the time to research the issue in detail and develop a coherent proposal.

Is the plan just “create a commission to provide recommendations”? If so, that’s not a plan — that’s a punt.

Truly heartwarming.

Yep. And when Paul Ryan was recruited, he extracted several concessions from them — mostly that they couldn’t treat him as badly as they did Boehner. That didn’t last long.
