Yes, and it’s getting harder to get the perspective as our news becomes more agenda-based and “bloggified”. This site is no exception.

You know the stick to sports edict didn’t mean you guys, right?

My favorite design language is Cadillac’s.  But I catch crap every time I mention that I think it’s as good or better, as if I uttered a heresy.

Got it.  If I get seat time in it, I’ll look closely.

Oh no, don’t be sorry. I bought it off lease with the depreciation baked in and still working like new, with CPO warranty and all. Fabulous deal. I don’t car a whit about resale. I keep my cars until they die.

Have to take you at your word about the Genesis plastic parts in this particular car. If parts you tend to touch are still hard plastic, I’ll hope and expect that they remedy that next year. But that’s why with this particular car, I had to stipulate materials aside and stick with design aesthetics, because I haven’t

You know what else is impressive? The electronics update. My K900 has a good infotainment system that is usable, per Kia standard. Unfortunately, it also seems to have tried to ape the older BMW model in the first generation and stuck with a knob controller and adequate 2015 graphics. The new K900, by comparison,

I actually don’t think the Genesis looks dated to my eye, for all that it’s more rectilinear than the latest luxury designs.  But going on how much of a difference Kia made with the recent K900 update, I suspect the new Genesis will definitely being the G cars up to speed.

From a purely design perspective, I think I would take the Genesis over the Audi, but the Merc over the Genesis. I’d take all three over the 5 series, which I find boring.

That’s key. My K900 interior from 2015 looks great, but the new K900 interior is so much fancier. Things have changed so much in the last 5 years. Wood trim for just one example. In this time period, shiny wood has gone out, and matte, natural-finish has taken its place across the luxury board.

You are right.  And I have sat in that interior.  My impressions are that it is solid and well made, and really boring.

I respect that you say that. I have sat in 5 series cars and not felt that their interior materials were discernibly different, although I have to add the caveat that BMW materials can change substantially with trim level, as I understand.

I mean, I understand and respect that you feel that way.  When I look at it, I don’t see that it’s “better” looking from a design perspective.  As I said, I do understand objective measures like price of interior materials, but design is so subjective.

Andrew, you say the interior isn’t quite as interesting a design as it could be and that it’s a weakness. That statement on its own I accept. What confuses me is that you tie it to the Germans by saying it’s not quite up to snuff with German design. So I go and look at a 5 series interior for comparison. To my eye

I love my neighborhood Albertson’s. It’s not the biggest or best in the universe, but they have almost everything I need. The staff have known me for years and watched my daughter grow up. They notice when she’s not with me and ask after her. Everyone is always very helpful. The bakery puts out free cookie samples

Twinkies were always an acceptable breakfast.

LOL, I always keep some cash on me. Legal tender never goes out of style, plus for anything that’s only a couple of bucks, I feel embarrassed almost to use a card.

It helps, and yet there are potentially ominous Big Brother possibilities associated with that.

Glad you have a good experience.  And maybe I’ll give it another try.  Sometimes there are just teething problems with a new system. Maybe that was what happened at my store.

Oh, this wasn’t for work reimbursement.  The store was just near my work.  My wife likes to have receipts for everything we put on the card.  We are starting to choose the email receipt option more often though.
