I love IV and Tactics Advance. I don't think the spin-offs are that big of a deal, especially when they gave us the awesomeness that is Crisis Core.

No, it really isn't. This may be it for me...
How close to when it came out did you play it? I still think that's a huge part of the enjoyment. But, I do admit, most of my animosity for the game comes from it being overpraised when other games fall to the wayside.
Yeah, that's what happened when they changed the system, now more casual commenters only see the first comment and reply to that one. The rest is completely ignored.
It's basically whoever posts first, pretty much. At least, that's how I got the featured on Jason's JRPG column.
Wait a minute, let me guess, I only get 3/4's of the life preserver unless I cough up $15 for the DLC?
You found me in the ocean of lost comments!
It really doesn't, I need to play IV and V, the whole trilogy really.
I really hope the people in charge are looking at this to see what's wrong with this system, the first few comments are the only ones to get a decent number of replies and most don't get any. It seems to have nothing to due with an algorithm or comment quality, but who's FIRST! So many voices will never be heard…
You can turn the battle animations off, and you can run instead of walk...
I liked that first new Dwemer dungeon. I think if this was a $10 DLC I'd be very content, but since it's $20 I hold it to much higher standards.
Because I don't think it's the best JRPG for people new to the genre. And did you really just reply to reply to that part instead of, you know, the part where I asked you to elobarate on why the game was good? I like how you're running away from having an actual conversation, it's hilarious. Plenty of other people are…
That's cool, I have no problem with that. I just don't think it's the best game to use as someone who's never played JRPG's before's first game. I think the examples I cited are better, that's why I made the comment I did.
Have you played IX? Not nearly as grindy as past games. Seeing as your rebuttle is "they're just shit." I'm guessing you haven't. Seriously, the whole, "such and such is awesome millions of people play it STFU" response is trollish. It's not a critical examination of anything I'd expect better, it makes you and the…
Yeah, I'd definitely say it's mediocre. Not outright terrible perhaps, but not all that good. IV is a much better place to start really. As are VI, the DS version of III, and probably a couple others.
I'm an idiot how exactly? I find that Chrono Trigger, DQIX, and Pokemon are all simple RPG's that make a great entry point. FFVII does not, it's too much a product of it's time. I never said that the problem with the game is that it's too simple, far from it. I find that the game is overwhelmingly mediocre compared to…
What's so sluggish about it?
Both of these things so much, unfortunately hardcore FFVII fans don't see that. Another problem that gets in the way of giving birth to more JRPG fans...
Yeah, that's basically what I'm trying to say here and people are taking it the wrong way. All I'm trying to say is that VII is a product of it's time and that's not the best way to get newcomers into a genre.
I kind of hate responding this way because I miss out on all of the other replies made to other people in the thread. Gawker seems to frown upon that anyway now.
