Actually, that Freeza ending thing is an urban legend that's been repeated a little too often. Here's a very well sourced piece about the various "intended ending" urban legends for Dragon Ball.

She didn't die. She was recast because her Freeza was inconsistent with the original characterization. When Funimation dubbed Kai, they decided to use it as a chance to do a more faithful adaptation of the series, so they recast Freeza appropriately.
