@grigori: I'd argue that, at least while the machine was new, it increased the "spectacle" of the event.

I'd like to see this tech used to embed imaging sensors into the display (Apple already has a patent for this).

@adlyb1: Now that I think about it, if you had sensitive enough equipment, you may be able to engineer something similar to how certain malware detection software works.

@Maave: Yeah, you could then lead the authorities on a wild goose hunt. (or let them think that your car is stationary while you run amuck)

@adlyb1: Good point! Somehow I brainfarted completely on how GPS works, silly me. I supposed you'd need to inspect the transmitted packets to identify the kind of traffic (which would probably violate the DMCA or some junk).

@Kaiser-Machead v.2.1.1: Sure, and with a detector you have the option of doing that... with a jammer the choice is made for you (without you even knowing that it happened).

What about a GPS signal detector instead of a jammer? Do those exist (doesn't seem like a difficult technology)? Are those also illegal (shouldn't be, since they would be passive)?

@magius: Yeah, seriously. This is beyond "man gets hit by football in crotch"

@TactakillChewy: So you never say Eight-Five instead of Eighty-Five? That's like complaining because people say Four Twenty instead of Four-hundred Twenty.

@j14: considering that he would have been severely injured at the least, not really funny at all.

@Bluecold: Oh, I thought there was more to it than that.

@Bluecold: What is the purpose of bicycle fenders?

@kingcrim84: shouldn't it be more valuable since there will be less of it?

@ps61318: so you instead made an "in Soviet Union" joke wrapped in a thinly-veiled comment about the ban-hammer.

@zimbabwaenquadrillionare: Dumb is saying that we should understand the implications of what we do BEFORE we attempt to implement a solution on a large enough scale to cause problems? Alright, I'm dumb.
