Legacy support, even if just through PS Now, always seems like an obvious next step moving forward as media companies of all time try to be come content platforms above and beyond the hardware they’re on (see Apple and Microsoft).
True, but I believe all of those are the ones that were ported/up-res’d for PS4. Native PS2 games still aren’t available.
I mean, the only way PSX backwards compatibility is being ‘worked on’ in any capacity is a new classics program. The PlayStation 4's optical drive is incapable of reading CD-ROMs and I’d expect the PlayStation 5 follows suit. PlayStation 2 and 3 are a different story in so much as software-based emulation is possible…
I honestly thought this was confirmed way before this. God, this ambiguity is starting to get ridic on the new consoles. Like, I get with COVID plans change, and I’m totally cool with my launch PS5 or Series X being just an up-rezzer for existing games in 2020, but just lay the cards on the table here guys!
My man over here on that PS5 life already. NOICE!
Probably too soon, especially when they can’t even keep the Switch in stock. It’s passed 60 million units and expected to go past 100 million units. I can’t imagine Nintendo planning to move on from the current Switch in the near future. That being said, the Switch is going to get absolutely left in the dust by the…
This is tge feasible approach. Checkerboarding has a current gen feature. Even ps5 and xbox sx will prolly be like this in terms of 8k. So Nintendo getting this to run on the switch is feasible. The upgrade will prolly just be on the ram. Now with 8gb instead of 4gb
This is a day one purchase for me if it retroactively makes existing Switch ports like MK11 and the Witcher 3 run better. That’s possible, right?
Could it mean that BOTW will run at locked 30FPS?
Whoops, physical switch cartridges would be first on the list. of course.
This has been leaking for ages and hasn’t happened yet.
And Knuckles
Cool. another model everybody has to buy from scalpers. bastards.
Hopefully they make it their next gen with backwards compatibility. I know they’re just early rumors based on Nvidia job listing, but the potential of DLSS 2.x on a Switch style device would definitely have my attention either way.
Sony and MSFT better hope that it is really next year. Sucks for them if a Nintendo Direct comes out and announce it for this holiday.
Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series
I would settle for one that slots into my existing case and controllers but has a nicer screen befit this decade.
Would be awesome if it was just an upgraded dock that had a gpu in it to get the 4k. Then we coudl all keep using our current models... that have AC islands on it.
I am happy, yet concerned. In order, I want these things to be backwards compatible: eShop purchases (wow, the amount of indie games I’ve purchased because they sounded more fun to play on the Switch!), joycon backwards compatibility, dock compatibility.
