There isn’t anything to understand because the action of voting for him tells you all you need to know. Sure maybe these people voted for economic reasons or whatever and they don’t support the discriminatory things he said, but at best they were willing to look past it, and that kind of carelessness for others can’t

Then nothing. She said she felt bad for looking down on these guys before they gave a big tip. I don’t think she needs to feel bad about it. Your mileage may vary.

So the price of acceptance of voting for a bigot is $450?

Yeah, I’m a little confused. I get that at first she thought three white dudes from Texas were in town for Trump. But they could have been there for any number of reasons. Hell they could have come in for the march.

No, I agree. I’m the last person to sit here and say I understand/respect that viewpoint, but at the same time, we can’t fucking half 4 years of this “alternate reality” shit, as you said. There’s too much at stake to spend the entire time just yelling at people who still think Trump is in it for them.

Eh, I think that the only way to cut this Gordian knot (without setting it on fucking fire) is to call out and encourage decency. It’s at a premium nowadays, and I feel like people are so caught up in their right to feel injured/afraid/angry that the knot just gets tighter.

It’d be nice if we could all come together against fascism. But I doubt that happens.

yeah, this is a tough one. I like their sentiment, but if you’re backing Trump, their message is just words and not deeds to back it up. I mean even if they live their daily life that way, they supported someone who doesn’t.

I’m all for rich Trump supporters to throw around money while desperately telling everyone they meet that they’re not racist. I get the impulse, and the $450 is crazy generous. But saying the equivalent of, “Oh, you’re one of the good ones. Here’s some money.” still seems off putting.

This sort of stuff is why I hope at some point we can all find something (that Trump does) to unite around. We all turn into caricatures online, spouting shit about being “triggered” or “nazis” or whatever, when at the end of the day, most people just want to get along with their common man.

Then is the Oscar’s just a popularity contest?

That has nothing to do with it, all the panlists get sent screeners. So three things could have happened.

1. They didn’t watch it, because it’s anime.

2. They didn’t like it.

3. They got a lot of “gifts” from big Companies, which in no way would ever sway the vote, nooo that would never happen, not ever.

Around the time Crash won Best Picture, probably. So 2006?

At what point do we call the Oscars completely irrelevant and out of touch and completely ignore them and the people who nominate the films?

Came to post the same thing. This shows unions aren’t representing it’s membership anymore. It’s all about the money in their pockets.

Unions in Western Europe seem to work better because they already had a cultural forebear: the guild system. So labor being a skill and having representation as such is more valued.

This is a great example of why unions fell out of favor over the 20th century: too often, they cozy up to big business and exist primarily for enriching their leaders at the expense of the workers whom they are supposed to represent.

The first thing the racist does when he comes to power, he takes all the Negro leaders and invites them for coffee, to show that he’s alright. And these Uncle Toms can’t pass up the coffee. They come away from the coffee table telling you and me that this man is alright.

The enormous numbers of pricks from the Building unions around here including Carpenters, Laborers, Pipefitters, IBEW that voted and spewed Trumpism is most of the reason why I hate PA. Trump never hired a union shop in his pathetic life yet these guys, for which in NEPA there were thousands, jumped on his jock.

I am curious how all those cops and firefighters who voted the Orange Turd feel about him gutting their public sector unions. It’s all fun and games until it hurts them, right?
