I think that group exists... unfortunately, I think there’s also a rather large group of people who publicly bad mouth him and then will quietly vote for him again when they get in the ballot box because they like tax cuts.
Well the answer is that they think they’re helping. They don’t consciously want the Oscar. That’s why we keep seeing this happen over and over.
This entire idea just sounds exploitative... and they haven’t even said what the premise of the movie is. I can harbor a guess, though...
Well, in cases of movies like this, the way to make this work is to cast a trans person in the lead role, and then fill every supporting part with an A list actor. The reason this doesn’t happen, is that the actors don’t care about the message, they want an Oscar for their “powerful” performance.

I’m not speaking to the veracity of the OP’s claim, but I do think there’s a difference between all the fuss over video game violence, or rock music, or the Smurfs, or whatever prior panic existed. All of those are works of fiction, art, or escapism, and the audience for the most part knows that.

I had a whole thing the other day about wanting to take back the term “virtue signaling.” It’s currently used as a pejorative against anyone who, frankly, shows any empathy towards another human being online.

Yes. He only changed his tune when he was personally affected. That’s not to belittle the fact that I think he is fairly genuine today, but we should also be honest about what seems to be the fact that had it not happened, he could have and possibly would have continued blindly ignoring injustice.
What’s the value?
