I have a friend who does this and as far as I can tell it’s a way for them to feel unique without actually being all that unique.

I wasn’t suggesting breeding programs as a means for reintroduction but thanks for all that info, I agree there are larger ecological problems that need fixing in order for those animals to be reintroduced.

I get that keeping these animals in captivity is deeply inhumane but wouldn’t it be even more inhumane to just release them into the wild after years of dependence on humans? Like what are the alternatives for these remaining whales at this point?

I can’t even begin to imagine what she went through in there but it is a relief that she at least had a dependable community to turn to in what was probably the worst 6 years of her life. I can’t wait for her to get out and start getting her life back. I’m gonna go have a little cry now.
