If it’s of you, you need to give authorization for the photo to be released and proliferated. In some states, I know in CA photo releases are required for some business and industries. The photo might ‘belong’ to the person who took it but that doesn’t necessarily give them the right to distribute it.

I think abuse is more correct but probably somewhat interchangeable in this context.
