I’ve had a wee thing for Yamaha’s 270 Degree IL twins since the TRX850, they just sound so good, they’re super compact and the daily road going usability of that torque curve is just brilliant. It warms my cockles to see them keeping this motor configuration alive and gently massaging it as the years tick over.

I was tackled side on by a snap-lane changing SUV at 40MPh last year. Just riding along in the lane being good and boom, now were sliding, no avoidance possible. The bike (all 551Lbs of it) was pushed with force onto the road by the front passenger door of the SUV and subsequently my left ankle pinning it to the

I got high temp gasket sealant in my eye once. Followed by 2 hours at the emergency room with a nurse squirting local on my eyeball. So much fun.

Dat airbox though! Sheesh, getting half a silly on just looking at it.

There’s a girl in in these pictures?

I’d rather have an RC51 to be honest.

Steed 1: 1998 Yamaha XJR1300

It was an M50TUB25 which was pulled out and swapped with an M52B28 (single coolant temp sensor version). So the engine loom remains unchanged, just drop in the M52 with a decent Manual gearbox, plug all the sensors, fuel lines, earth straps and coils in, bolt the M52 headers to the M50 exhaust and turn the key. At the

Now this indicator would make a lot more sense to me if it was an imbecile light.

I took my father in laws E24 M635i for a hoon a couple of weeks ago. That M88-3 is one of history’s great motors! It just keeps pulling and pulling and pulling. The torque is everywhere, don’t get me started on the harmonic accompaniment of those delicious individual throttles! SEX!

We have broken ass $2000 R32s and R33s all over the country with shit paintwork, home job mufflers, cut springs, $50 blow off valves and turbo leaks. You can have em’! Every last stinkin’ one! They’re so popular with society’s unwanted in Auckland that they’ve got a stigma of worthlessness that’ll never be shaken.

I had a white ‘86 Bongo diesel truck years ago. Even though it had as much power as the average scooter it still managed to go sideways quite nicely.

Replace ‘America’ with ‘New Zealand’ or ‘Australia’ or ‘Great Britain’ or ‘South Africa’ and the same would be true, to a greater degree in some of these cases too in my experience. Most of the countries in the world have a majority of road users who are just completely inept, irresponsible and under skilled. America

We have at least 5 TVRs turn up to our monthly cars n' coffee meet in Auckland. Usually a pair of Griffiths, a couple of Tuscans and a Sagaris. These guys drive their cars often by their activity on the local 'meet' scene and they are ALWAYS the best sounding group on arrival. A sonorous wail of v8s and big bore

Have you ridden one? The cb1300 I mean. They're pretty dull to be honest, the power just tapers off at 6krpm then it's close the blinds and go to bed. The Yamaha on the other hand comes on cam at 6krpm good n' proper, then it's all fireworks until 10krpm at which point you'll be wanting the next cog.

WOW! What shocks me is that I could get a very similar look with a few bolt on bits for my 99' XJR1300. I wonder if the bits for the 15' model will fit?

I guy I met a few years ago who contests one of these in the local rally championship regularly. The bastard is so loud, you can hear it a full minute before it comes into visual range.

Fast driving on public roads is a high stakes Poker game that you can't afford to lose. My advice to young guys who are starting to tune their cars and build driving confidence is usually along these lines:

I miss the NA 2000cc rules. These new 1600cc boosted cars just don't have that "death scream of a rabid banshee" from a jacked up NA 2L 4 banger at 8000RPM. A noise that my neighbors love to hate I'm sure :P
