Well USMC Harriers flying off of LHDs in the Persian Gulf are currently bombing ISIS so yes they will be used.

This stuff isn’t really outside the scope of normal infantry operations yet. So I don’t really understand what exact operations you are inffering to that would have been trained for and needed under the MEUs Special Operations Capable training qualifications.

With the MEUs aviation element and the V-22 CentCom SPMAGTF in in the area there is a lot of air power on stand by to bring in additional forces

I get what they did there. Use Marines already deployed on a MEU to plus up forces yet not add to the allotted amount.....
