This must be pretty close to what Canon does as my EF 70-200mm lens lens in the factory case fell off my side and only had minor damage to the IS. When it tried to escap from my camera backpack, A 3 foot drop on asphalt for my 135mm F/2L chipped the barrel, but the lens worked just fine.
