80 at worst? There’s hasn’t been a day under 80 in weeks and the peninsula now routinely gets into the 90s and occasionally pokes into triple digits. Yeah, it’s not Australia, but it’s not just 75 with a light breeze around here, and when combined with a stadium that makes it like 10 degrees hotter than the reported

Yep. I grew up in Palo Alto and now live in Mountain View. Shitty tech bros do indeed abound (and ok, I do work in tech, but I do try to not to be shitty). While they don’t have the character of a big city, all the peninsula cities have something to recommend them - Mountain View has nice parks and a decent downtown.

Apropos of nothing, I can really think of nothing sadder to name a cat than “Eponine”, a character that is basically the embodiment of “I will die alone”.

She’ll be fine if she seems like she really wants to be there. She is certainly a good actress, but in two swings in big (broadly) fantasy/sci fi properties she has not really impressed.

Counterpoint: her sidekick was easily the best thing in the first Thor movie.

Oh, this make more sense. The video I’m seeing in the article above is showing a different, less spectacular goal (still a decent one, but not “goal of the summer” material).

I’d bet my last dollar the chant was started by plants, hired agitators, with his full knowledge.

As childish as trolling random internet forums to tell strangers their taste sucks for no reason?

Hmm, I find exactly the opposite - podcasts and audiobooks have ruined me for actual books...

Just +1 for Wyman’s podcast (this episode and all others). If you are interested in History told in an engaging manner, you should really check it out.

I am reminded of an interview with some sports writer on KNBR (San Francisco) I heard, oh, 15 years ago or so (I think Ralph Barbierie was the interviewer). The writer (whose name I don’t recall) said something like “My father taught me: you don’t change what team you root for and you don’t change political parties.”

Nobody said Dylan wasn’t credible, just that the corroborating witnesses could all be said to have an axe to grind (which, if nothing else, is going to make legal action harder to pursue).

I think he’s kind of the opposite of that. Ryan was a guy whose most remarkable attribute was his incredible longevity, both within a given game and over his career. Sanders had a relatively short, but extremely dominant career. If I was going to make a baseball comp I’d say Koufax.

I’m pretty sure he saw Barry run into the 3 other guys and just kind of assumed the play was over and stood up and turned around. Pretty great.

One of the most annoying things about Sanders coverage was the running line that he didn’t know what he was doing, he just had fantastic reactions or some such nonsense.

Eh, when compared to the other turds it looked like a goddam masterpiece. And anyway, I’m usually down for a good ‘hero quest’ movie. I always think of Neverending story as more of a meta-story because i read the book first (yeah, I was *that* asshole 12-year-old).

If *I* could play devil’s advocate for a minute, you’ve been served for a lawsuit related to injury and trauma to my client.

That seems likely. Although as someone who has worn a mascot costume for his son’s elementary school, those things are a bitch to see out of.

I mean, is the bar encouraging people to show up there armed to the teeth? I do think that they should pay the license fee ($400/year seems pretty reasonable), but comparing them to the Bundys is a pretty massive false equivalency.

Yeah, that’s what seemed odd, but maybe it was just misreported here - if he was asking the dealer for the size of the *bet* it would make sense.
