Generally, on professional sets, when sexual content is involved, everyone endeavors to make the actors involved as comfortable as possible. This is why such sets are often closed. Now, a kiss scene is not a sex scene, but to a young actor who hasn’t had their first kiss yet, there’s obviously a lot of nerves

We can fight more than one thing at a time. While I do believe in ‘pick your battles’, I’ll pick a battle against a grown man harassing a teenager (and this is harassment - it’s a power move, it’s bullying).

Man, if we can’t defend teenage girls, who ARE we supposed to defend?

Right? Literally anywhere else, that would be plain bullying.

It’s less about the act and more about the fact that it wasn’t part of the script, and the ONLY reason Duffers added it in was BECAUSE it made Sink uncomfortable. That’s an asshole move, no matter what. Why does that matter? Because we, as a society, need to stop making excuses and letting people get away with acting

I don’t exactly understand why the article has drawn the ire of most of the commenters.

Because that’s a gross oversimplication of the situation. They didn’t just stop working on the site. They shut it down entirely to spite everyone so all that work they put in over the years is wasted and makes it a pain in the ass for people to use those pieces as examples/portfolio pieces for the purposes of finding

Every union ive been in has taken less than 2% of my check and my pay and benefits were significantly better than the non union employers. I also had representation in meetings with a boss that was harassing (not sexual) and bullying me to to substandard work because he didn’t want to make the effort required to do

They’re right, though. You have an incredible skill at having The Worst Take on any given topic.

It’s very convenient that they suddenly stopped making enough money a week after they voted to unionize, isn’t it?

He really meant “I believe unions promote a corrosive me-against-everyone dynamic that destroys the divine right of kings doctrine that I subscribe to.”

ugh even if that was the case, why shut it down all of a sudden. he isn’t a millionaire who is about to miss a mortgage payment and couldn’t sustain keeping the site up a minute longer because of it, no he did it as a fuck you to the workers for trying to unionize. and only the NY edition unionized, the other sites

“I believe unions promote a corrosive us-against-them dynamic”
No no. Not treating your employees well and pushing to the point where they need a union to get what they deserve is what promotes a corrosive us-against-them dynamic.

“I believe unions promote a corrosive us-against-them dynamic that destroys the esprit de corps businesses need to succeed.”

twist?

I’m looking forward to the Onion article that tells us about how all the sex predators in Hollywood have amalgamated into a giant Katamari-like ball of leering, innuendo, and masturbation named Gropulon the Sexecutioner.

Yep. Historically, we find that product safety is something companies basically never addressed until society (by way of government regulation) forced them to do so. Ethical concerns like privacy are a close cousin to safety, and as they also cost money to address, corporations will generally ignore those concerns

I have always felt his act needs more Polish.

I would also like to announce I am distancing myself from Ratner. I’m already pretty distanced, living several thousand miles away, but after lunch I can assure you, I will be sliding my desk and chair several feet westward.

It has been researched, extensively. Early researches proposed a “triad” of predictive behaviors - experimenting with arson, cruelty to animals, and chronic bed wetting - that were supposed to be strongly correlated with later compulsive violent behavior. This research predates the development of the “serial killer”

On the one hand, maybe with a better childhood Dahmer wouldn’t have turned out the way he did. On the other hand, tens of thousands of children with a childhood like Dahmer’s or worse don’t turn out the way he did.
