That makes sense, though. California has a population of 37 million vs. Michigan's 9.8 million.

This is a great idea, but can I make some suggestions on your data collection that will make this way easier to work with down the road?

If I might make a technical suggestion… Perhaps don't use GIFs for these? Maybe it's just me, but they switch too quickly to really study either image.

I don't remember Minako ever being particularly incompetent in battle, at least not any moreso than the other three. Depending on the episode,Usagi and Chibiusa would show up, get knocked around in some slapstick way, then the four inners would show up, all their attacks would be basically ineffective, they'd either

I think they were meant to indicate she was getting older, yeah? The original anime does include them when she becomes Princess or Neo Queen Serenity. (Personally, I'm not a fan of them, but whatevs)

Honestly, I was never too bothered by Tuxedo Kamen's roses. Maybe because I was a kid at the time, but even now it seems mainly like a narrative device to keep him in each episode and maybe sneak in a joke between him and that week's monster. Even in the episodes where he's absent, Usagi still needs someone—usually

It's been a while since I've read the manga, so I'm a little hazy on how Minako's characterized there. But I have to say I absolutely love the anime's goofy, ditzy ("don't worry about the fish eggs from before!"), boycrazy Minako.

Naoko's art can be beautiful in still illustrations, but maybe her "glamour" style doesn't translate to animation so well. Or, rather, it would be lovely for a character like Neo-Queen Serenity, who's meant to be regal and ethereal, but not crybaby Usagi.

Ding ding ding.

It isn't. I basically spent the whole weekend watching SuperS. Her voice was always high (especially when arguing with Rei or Chibiusa, or when yelling at that week's particular monster), but she is trilling/warbling her voice in practically all of her Crystal dialogue, and almost all of it seems shouted.

In the manga, Usagi sees Naru in danger through her mask. In the anime, they flash and do the super hearing thing (and in both continuities, she uses them to issue a supersonic cry that stun the youma). She does the supersonic wave thing once more (with Sailor Chibimoon) in SuperS, and it appears to be one of Super

Depends whom you ask…

Yes, I actually spent most of the weekend watching SuperS.

Also, frankly, their uniforms may be more faithful to the manga, but the original anime designs are still closer to the manga when it comes to face shape, size, the eyes, etc:

The animation was poor, and I'm still not into the new designs. But I was also really underwhelmed by the music. The original anime had a beautiful and very memorable score (RIP, Takanori Arisawa), and of course had five years to develop it, so I'll give Crystal some time, but the BGM was just so generic. I don't

I loved kotono's voice, and when she buckled down and did the dramatic scenes more soft spokenly, it gave usagi a lot of depth. The hysterics were usually limited to the comedy scenes, but I doubt we'll be getting as much humor in this series. The scenes where she kicks the door and bashes her knee, and where she

I think part of this is that they're not animating every element of a scene. Usagi's hair and mouth might move, for example, while her head, eyes, and eyebrows tend to stay still. It also looks like they didn't bother to animate in between frames sometimes, so her hair, for example, jumps back and forth from one

Usagi was always high pitched and occasionally shrill (especially when crying or arguing with Rei or Chibiusa), but the reboot is taking it to another level. Kotono is trilling a lot of her dialogue for some reason, which she didn't do before.

Honestly… While most of the artwork (particularly the backgrounds, and indeed, some of the character designs) is lovely, the animation itself seems quite poor to me. I don't know what the frame rate was here, but there are some parts where the animation feels quite jittery, and others where they only bothered to

The original Batman (1989) also has an Academy Award for Best Art Direction/Set Decoration.
