When I read it, the most interesting parts were just how devastated Flint was economically and how that led to the increase in the drug trade and how they prepared the wedding and how it went off. If I was in charge, I would do this as a straight procedural and *not* play up how wacky it is-the absurdity will come

Read the article, they also decorated the cake with bees made of frosting-”sting”, get it?

Paramount bought the rights yesterday. There was apparently a substantial bidding war.

As much as I don’t like the idea of big business having an inordinate amount of influence over politics, in this case I could see big businesses (airlines, tech companies, etc.) raising a stink and getting the more moderate Republicans (there actually are some in the legislature) to vote against this. Like what the

Native Texan/Austinite here...can we can the “Austin is the only decent city in TX” game?! It’s so...predictable. And not true. Austin is the city in Texas with the highest level of economic segregation, highest cost of living, it’s increasingly hostile to black residents (as it has grown, the number of black

I think she’s genuinely smart and talented too, but (small voice) I think there were other women in 12 Years that were just as good (Sarah Paulson/Adepero Oduye/Alfre Woodard) but Lupita had the ingenue/fashion plate narrative, and winning an Oscar seems to be about talent + a good media narrative.

I would rather she have a steady acting career with substantial parts than just be a fashion plate. I am still worried that she peaked with her first movie.

...because it isn’t possible.

I think the big question is, once the field is firmed up (I would think by mid-June, everyone who is running will have declared), who will drop out first? Someone needs to hold a contest where we guess who will go first and exactly when? Before Iowa even starts?

Now playing

Strangely enough, of all the people in the world, Mika Brzezinski (sp?) of Morning Joe (which I *never* watch) basically called her Fiorina on her failures to her face. Fiorina did her Clinton-shading shtick and Mika then listed all of Fiorina’s failures and asked her whether that made her qualified to slam...well,

“No dissenting opinions, no losing people, no one demanding your attention.”

Looking for a flight in the middle of May was the first error-the prices skyrocket from May through September. My basic rule for going overseas is to never ever go in the summer if possible. And looking a month in advance isn’t going to give you an international flight for cheap.

“Selma was a good movie, but it was a bit emotionally manipulative.”

This isn’t directed at you (or anyone, just asking out loud), but when/how/why did the word “fierce” become the go-to adjective linked with anything black people (esp. women) do? I think it’s so odd.

Yeah you are likely right about it being a class thing. But this must be a recent thing-I went to private school and we were not encouraged to apply to 8 schools-I applied to 5 and that was pushing it. I don’t know if it is as intense in Texas-back in my day everyone aimed for UT-Austin (duh), Rice, and a couple of

Seriously. I applied to *five* schools total and only two of them were elite reach schools. I thought applying to five schools was exhausting. To be fair this was (ahem) a while ago, and there were simply fewer kids applying anywhere when I was 18, so it was easier to get into any school. I applied to the University

Well...those movies you just mentioned are all by different people and have little in common. Anyone could cherry pick three movies by three different people to make an argument.

No, I just think people assume that you must be hiding something if you don’t put the body on display. Or that the body must look terrible and not be suitable for display (which, as we have seen by some of the posts on here, is not a deterrent to an open casket) and then they wonder why that is. We just didn’t do it

The worst thing is that open casket funerals are seen as so normal that when you choose not to have one (as my family did when my mother died) you can straight up sense other people (even other family members) judging you or asking questions...when it’s not their mother and not their decision. I think open caskets are

My favorite tell it like it is from a retiring Congressman was when a Gary Ackerman, a Democrat from New York, left in 2012 and lamented the deteriorating behavior of Congress and when asked what was the cause said:
