Is there a way to acknowledge all that while also allowing slaves, in our cultural narrative, the sexual drive and agency of all adults?

I mean...I’ve never been accused of rape. People never had to wonder if I intimidated a witness into not testifying because I never did that. Where does the final word “court” lie—how do you feel about men who were proved to be innocent by DNA evidence, but whose appeals were blocked? Hope this doesn’t come off…
How so? I’m being honest, please explain how it’s a strawman.
Is there a reason you won’t answer the question? I’m not “trying to be clever” (I wouldn’t be in the comment section on jezebel dot fucking com if I wanted to talk to smart people, lol), I’m genuinely curious
So a 14 year old who has to live in a bad scary neighborhood is responsible if she gets raped on the way to school?
I’m not saying that people shouldn’t bitch about it, I’m saying that people need to recognize that their problem might not be the most fucking pressing problem for the MTA. That’s all.
Listen, I live off the L in “hipster” williamsburg and work and midtown manhattan, so I’ve heard this argument before, I just don’t find it persuasive. I think it’s selfish and lets us off the hook for being selfish. If you’re ok with that, fine, but I wish people would admit that more.
Other. People. Are. Not. At. Fault. On. The. Basis. Of. Where. They. Live.
No, but if you don’t want it to happen to you, the solution isn’t a personal, selfish one, but one that ensures that it won’t happen to anyone. You are not somehow less deserving of rape or mugging just because you care about yourself more. No one deserves that.
Really, how so? How is thinking that something is acceptable for others but not acceptable for yourself anything but selfish hypocracy? You can believe that that is ok, but don’t pretend that’s not what it is. Be fucking honest with yourself if you think you deserve better than other people.
The general public must support people who report rape. It is (literally) irrational to assume that people who have some stake in a case, be they related to the victim or the perpetrator or the accused, to behave rationally or to come in unbiased.
But it’s fine for other people to be riding those buses through such dangerous neighborhoods?
wow i will be sure to update my records thnx
I just find your reluctance to admit your priviledge in having a choice annoying tbh
I actually have my budget figured out so I’m not pouring $22000 a year into useless shit, so I don’t have to get a second job to live comfortably! I’ll definitely consider it if I want to take an extra vacation next year, though, thanks hon!
Again, I can’t think of a second job I could do in the time that I’m not at my first job that would net me $22000 a year, after tax, but sure, not “rich”
How would you know about them covering up rapes if they were...covering that up?
I mean, I don’t have an extra $22000 lying around each year, especially for something that is provided for free by law, but if having that much more than others isn’t “rich” to you, I guess we live in very different paradigms.
Wow yes tru great point $42000/year is a very reasonable price for ELEMENTARY SCHOOL when you put it that way wish i could find such a bargain :(
Owning a gun is 100% a choice, and one that I would argue is antisocial in the clinical definition of the word. Your gender, race, or appearing to be a member of a particular religion are not.
