@Master_Soda: If, in this context, you attempt finish the phrase, "Those who can't innovate...", it's pretty easy to come up with "...sue those who can."

@Master_Soda: Oracle, Apple and Microsoft are suing (for different reasons) about Android, which was created by Google.

@talkingstove: Yes, you're right, only Google innovates.

@chaboud: Patent titles are usually pretty vague, but the actual patent explanations (usually) aren't.

@Juan R. PĂ©rez: The thing is, code theft is not included in patent laws. From what I understand, code is protected under copyright laws, which would posit a different lawsuit altogether.

@pjcard: +1 million. I see web sites being made into apps, for no reason. Sigh...

@acidrain69: The company itself is doing well. Not only is it doing well, it's doing great. Certainly, mobile and music are money drains for them, as is Bing (though it's the only search engine out there gaining market share every month since its introduction), and Xbox only recently started being profitable.

@Cromwell: I agree that they should be doing better, but disagree that, by any stretch of the imagination, they're doing badly.

@Dogen: I interpreted it as [Ballmer didn't fulfill] the need for the company to pursue innovations.

@acidrain69: Hmm, the fastest-selling Windows ever is "moderately successful". 300+ million copies of Vista sold is a "disastrous launch". 18.76 billion in profit in FY2009, yet they are "on the ropes".

@JakeMG: Waxing Pedantic: By the looks of this, maybe not. It seems that AT&T has some form of exclusivity, at least at launch. Who knows for how long though.

@Jagster: That's awesome. Although this is WinMo6.5 on an HTC HD2. I can't think of a reason why they'd not put this on WP7 though.

@scojac: Reception for WP7 among the media has generally been positive. Sure, it won't be feature complete at launch, which may or may not hinder its sales initially but that is no reason to cannibalize and basically bury the platform before it sees the light of day.

@fury161: Err what? Microsoft and Palm pretty much pioneered pocket computing and the smartphone. They didn't "decide to get into the handheld device market"; they were the handheld device market.

    Brilliant.

@Odin: Zune is already being released outside of the US.

Matt, I love your articles and I usually agree with you, but I can't agree in this case. Bing is pretty much the only Microsoft service I'd think would benefit them by putting it on other platforms, and only because the service itself needs as much exposure as it can get.

@Imtheredude: I have a 3GS on iOS4. Runs smooth as butter. Still sick of its faux-3D, metaphor-heavy aesthetic. IMO Wp7 makes it look so... dated.
