As the years pass and “improvements” cascade how soon will the horsepower get below 100hp?

You know you are doing well when many companies copy you. Who copies HD beyond Victory and Indian who only steal sales from HD? They don’t expand the market and they too will die for the same reasons. As noted the US is not a motorcycling country. Other brands generally do well in their home market which covers the

Suggest they drive CO highway 24 from Leadville to Minturn as a hurling intense test track. There is a short section with tight bends such that there is a serious 15 mph limit on a two lane road causing the driver to look out the side windows while turning for oncoming vehicles. By the time I reach Minturn I’m queasy

If you could take all the incremental battery “breakthroughs” over the last 20 years and apply them simultaneously and assume that one improvement wouldn’t displace another then electric cars would now be delivered with batteries that would have a lifetime charge.

Maecedes has a lot of proud history with respect to doggedly reliable transmissions and engines. In recent years BMW has gained fame for engines and transmissions whose high rates of failure and cost of repair are truly legendary. Porsche has had their problems too but solutions are often dealt with quickly and

I read this on an iPhone and skipped a few bits such that I thought the diatribe was aimed at the Acura design staff which made perfect sense to me. The original intent has been known for 30 years. In its early years every Acura model had waiting buyers. They realized that these Honda owners with money were quite

Ok, I’ll accept the fact that it has magic shocks. 60,000 miles down the road it needs new magic shocks. What are the odds that in fact new magic shocks will be available and installed?  I bet that Bilstein will have muggle shocks at a competitive price with the same part number as listed in the BMW parts catalog.

While few of your readers ever had to pay for a handbrake repair many will eventually have to pay for an e-brake repairs costing close to a grand. That “e” means that it is subject the common gremlins found in various electronic modules. The wife’s 6M Cayenne had e-brake issues associated the “hill holder” feature whi

“Bold” is associated with things that you do like Elon Musk not by announcing what you are not going to do like Jim Hackett. I bet he’ll never spend a night in an assembly plant.

Not buying it. If Mazda Hiroshima can run RWD convertibles down the same production line (and at the same time) as they do FWD Mazda 3 hatchbacks then assembling a rear motored (?) electric SUV must be doable without rectal bleeding. Also pay attention how quickly and apparently how easy it is to move a production

The $239K figure was predicated on making 10% which doesn’t happen reliably. The 5% figure would meet realistic but doesn’t yield a clickbait headline.  I bet this collector will be able to deduct the storage and maintenance costs such that the will be little or no taxes due on the profit. Sounds like a great way to

Agreed. In times past Audi and BMW have offered high performance wagons that found ready acceptance. Perhaps a VW R-Wagon would introduce more competition than Audi is willing to accept?  The fact is that space inefficient SUV’s are not substitutes for wagons.

How many bad Tylenol’s does it take to change the behavior of millions? How many smoking scooters does it take to change the behavior of Californians? Sabotage would appear to be far more efficient than destruction.

Destroying scooters doesn’t impede potential users other than denying the use of a scooter. If however they something to make the lithium battery start smoking to the extent that the scooters were seen as unsafe things would be far different. It didn’t take too many bad Tylenol’s to change the behavior of millions

First question: how many cargos are dangerous or high value? Bet they will have humans in the cab. Second question: will human drivers be automatically targeted because autonomous driven cargos are carrying safe and cheap cargos?  Being safe and cheap does that  mean some junior high miscreants armed with shopping

Thanks to many of the commentators, it has saved me a bunch of angry one fingered typing.

Autonomous driving driving technology now is similar to the early days of ballistic vests which were almost bulletproof. If you depend on them you die.

Owning anything German beyond the factory warranty is suicidal unless you can do normal maintenance including shocks, bushings and brakes. German automatic transmissions are a wild card. They are often difficult if not impossible for independents to repair and the cost of a factory rebuild far too quickly can be

If someone is leasing a car they are rarely in a position to dispute what the projected value would be. I fully expect my wife’s 2011 6M Cayenne will attract a premium but that is with me selling it privately. Most folk who are getting a new car have little appetite to debate trade in values especially with a Used Car

Why does BMW screw buyers by offering manual transmissions “at no extra charge” when in times before automatics were several thousand dollars more?  Porsche offers Tiptronic transmissions at a hefty extra charge as they should. On leased cars manuals are immediately dinged as they project that manual will be worth
