How many coats does one woman need?!?!?
but it sure was racist when he called Detective Mendoza “dear boy. No. No it’s not. Sutherland (and his eyebrows) are a senior, likely English educated, art and humanities expert and “dear boy” is not in anyway an ethnic slur and commonly used. My very senior boss uses it all the time when giving me a slight,…
My lame-ass Hugh Jackman story: he MC’d a big corporate I attended some years ago — around the time of this Oscars appearance, I think, when his stardom was starting to peak — and as part of his intro, he did a riff on “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’” that I think included some modified lyrics specific to our company.
Yes. I’ve loved Hugh Grant since Four Weddings and a funeral, so basically forever, and it’s great watching him nail this kind of roles. At this point, I’m here for him more than for the show, which I find just fine for now. And given the preview for next week, we’re going to see more of Grant in uncharted territory.
First off, I love your name. Second, I became a Hugh Grant fan after watching CLOUD ATLAS. Like most of the cast in that movie, he plays several different (and differing) characters and he displayed a range I didn’t know he had. I’m not crazy about THE UNDOING but Grant is doing a wonderful job using his considerable…
That was a fantastic episode. Bier can direct Kafka. I wonder if the source novel was influenced by The Trial. Superb visual and moody ways of depicting Grace’s increasing disorientation and Twilight Zone unraveling shock. And using the pathetic fallacy of the weather. Then the last act becomes kind of an Others…
I was just scrolling down to see if anyone had mentioned “The Ruins” yet. I know the premise sounds silly to anyone who hasn’t read it (sentient mimicking vines that kill you) and I understand the terrible movie adaptation pretty much murdered any mystique the book may have had. But man that book wrecked me-- after I…
No way, The Ruins is hella scary! Probably my favorite scary book I’ve read as an adult.
“won’t miss him AT ALL.” - alex trebek & his mother
Sterling K. Brown is like the Meryl Streep of this show - he makes even the cheesier parts significantly better.
For some reason the writers think that the only way to introduce new long-term characters is with secretly not-dead relatives. I mean, Justin plays Kevin’s thoughtfulness surprisingly well but I don’t buy him as a loner. He just started in a Ron Howard film. The dude seriously doesn’t have real and fake friends calling…
A small thing - but I loved Toby addressing Miguel as “Migs”. It reminded me of when he referred to Miguel as “Miggy Stardust”, which I also loved, and calls back to the bond between the three non-Pearsons that was forged in the early episodes.
Laurel (did we know her name before now?) Being alive after all this time is a jump the shark move.
I watched “The Vow” trying to see if there was anything remotely interesting about this guy, this blasé man made with cheap off-brand sliced sandwich loaf, margarine, mayo and processed cheese slices, but nada. What did they see? Why are they so enamored of his yammering and self centered world scope? Of course on the…
Hugh Grant is the Cary Grant we deserve.
What are you talking about this party sounds rad
That’s it exactly. A scene-by-scene recap, followed by three lines of criticism. That is what I wrote.
All I want for Season 2 is much less volleyball. Much, much less volleyball.
Yeah, I was REALLY surprised they didn’t hit on all the actual terrible shit he was doing. Don’t get me wrong; it’s interesting to see people work their way out of a cult, but the man wasn’t just getting one over on the Dalai Lama and having a bevy of of-age girlfriends. He was sex trafficking minors and committing…
It's so frustrating to know that this was designed for a six-season story with two-season arcs and we only got the first tantalizing third. I love that show.
