Whew YES. People are quick to be like “Well why would they join a cult!” Like they said in the doc (and like I say to anyone and everyone because I talk about this at length irl lmfao) nobody willingly joins a cult. They join a group that they think is something else only to find out later that it was a cult. Most

No, it’s a very good question! This was about 24 years ago and I had developed an intense interest in Buddhism and wanted to learn more, specifically the Tibetan traditions..mostly because that’s what I knew most about.

I cannot believe people agreed to that. It’s ugly as fuck and looks amateurish.

Yeah, agreed. Mark sounded really anguished at that moment—although I did notice that when Bonnie said, “I’m okay now,” his response was, “Yeah, but I’m not.” It’s not entirely about you, bro! That said, I don’t think that Sarah and Mark are narcissists per se. Self-absorbed and self-centered, sure, but Allison Mack

Was kind of wondering why they kept calling her “Princess” though. Yugoslavia hasn’t been a country in a while.

I’m glad that Catherine Oxenberg fought so hard when it came to the cult and saving her daughter. The last couple years have probably been difficult for India but I'm glad she has so much support.

They were both fabulous in that episode. :) They both are really fabulous and seem to be very intelligent and grounded women, royal titles or not. I think they won a lot of fans during the doc. (And judging by the comments, I’m not alone in feeling I can’t say that for many other people on the show - lol.)

Eh I feel like he noticed that although Bonnie chuckled at first, it became painful for her (you could see her face start to drop before he said anything). He was right that it was too soon and they weren’t ready to laugh about it yet. I think he was just sticking up for his wife. He said something like “I can see

Omg this is so accurate (me being a former Theatre Kid). When I watched that I can definitely see how Bonnie met her and was like eehhhh no thanks 😂.

I’d follow a llama around way longer than a lama.

It seems like in a lot of cults there is a male figurehead and then a woman who is the one really running everything and manipulating everyone.  It’s like Shela from the Wild Wild Country cult.

She’s an actress, of course she’s a narcissist ;)

Yeah I heard that too. And thought she was right until I heard the tapes and learned more. I hope it’s all in the final cut. This doc is definitely eye opening and more sensitive to the victims than HBO’s.

It’s one of the really bleak aspects of the show for me. Every time Keith speaks it’s just the emptiest platitudes and I struggle to understand how anyone gets roped in by it. I re-listened to the Behind the Bastards episode on him and all of Keith’s supposed achievements are similarly vague.

Omg I know.  I feel like, part of it is - drawing attention to how SHADY he has been for SO MANY YEARS.  There pretty much is no excuse at a certain point.  Well, at a very long ago point.  Some of these people are not really victims.

It was like red flag after red flag.

How does marriage come back from “Remember that time you made me sleep on a dog bed as penance? It was right after you led a bunch of men in psychological warfare against a group of women!”

Yup, her over-the-top attention seeking and weirdly sexualized responses to his bullshit when they first met were red flags for me too. I think she’s just as narcissistic as he is and saw the cult as an ego boost and a chance to wield power just like he did. There was no way she wasn’t going down with that ship.

That clip when she first meets Keith at the volleyball game (haha!), and he says something about her “art,” so she breaks down into tears. I have watched it repeatedly and can make no sense of what he is saying. It is word salad nonsense, and the fact that she became so demonstratively emotional so everyone could know

“Lama” one “L”. I also work with actual llamas..the 4 legged variety and I get confuse sometimes. The ones with 4 legs are far better teachers, btw.
