My husband’s aunt has a “roommate” with whom she has lived for probably close to 30 years. They bought their house together, their dog, they vacation together. Aunt has never had any other relationship with anyone else.

Fuck that! If I were him I would bequeath the property to SAGE, which supports elderly LGBT people. Second option: giving it to a wealthy neighbour who doesn’t need the money, just to stick it to the niece.

I have two elderly gay friends and I am terrified that this is going to happen when the one with significant assets passes.
