Morocco? As in the country in Africa? So he is African?

What exactly makes him “not black?” Genuine question, because I do not get it.

But he’s from France, and that’s how divorce works there. It’s private, and when the couple do not agree on terms a judge will adjudicate it. Which possibly speaks to the reason she filed publicly and without his knowledge. Had they agreed to a French judge adjudicating the divorce, she is not likely to have gotten

French dude isn’t so bad. I’ve met him, he’s terrifyingly good at foosball . Kicked everyone’s ass while drunk as a skunk good.

That’s why, just a few weeks prior to her going public with her divorce, she stated how much she struggled with monogamy, calling it not natural, aka I cheated on my husband. If they had an open relationship, struggling with monogamy would not have been a concern. Btw, have you ever heard of a celebrity husband

As a wearer of at least 8 or 9 giant rings at any given time— CAN CONFIRM that that seal-clap maneuver is a self-preservation thing, for your poor finger-flesh, as well as for the hardware itself! Nicole Kidman, I get you.

I think he is delightfully sarcastic whereas she seems utterly devoid of personality.

It seems that she likes to cultivate an air of mystery but I suspect she’s just boring.

I think he’s pissed at how much everybody loves Bruce Springsteen, who is sort of his old-rocker peer. But you know, Bruce is actually like, a good human being. Better music too.

Same. I thought this movie was excellent, and he clearly wants it to be something it isn’t.

I really dislike the “there’s so much science can’t explain” stuff because while there is much we don’t have on lock, we have a pretty solid idea about the contours of reality, and the general gist of how things work, and there is precisely zero basis for like... ectoplasm or something. I dunno, this thing just

The only thing I’ve really learned since Rich came over to Jez when Gawker was donezo is never to listen to anything Rich says because he hates everything.

Saw the movie at TIFF. I think the movie knows what it is trying to achieve, and succeeds. Is it entirely original? No, but that’s because it is trying to pay homage to a genre that is mostly dead. Was it a thinker? Again no, it’s an accurate depiction of Hollywood and the “dreamers” that inhabit the town. I dunno,

3) Democrats for not putting Bernie on the ticket.

I love how this election became about white women getting ahead in the professional workplace instead of, you know, poverty/education/minimum wage/child care/health insurance — things that actually affect most American women.

it's funny how quick to judge we are, isn't it? I see a lot of ladies in this thread complaining about feeling "judged" when they walk into an upscale makeup store, yet here you are calling sephora girls draggies. Pot? Kettle?

Yup. Also, I think the fact that the real Jordan Belfort stands to benefit substantially from this film (I'm sure sales of his memoir have gone up, and apparently he's shopping around a reality show) complicates things further. People are saying that the movie doesn't glorify Belfort or his actions, but that doesn't

YES. This is my problem- he keeps making movies about white men (with some notable, old exceptions). We know he CAN make movies about other types of people, but he chooses to not give them a voice.

Perhaps if we were equally obsessed with morally corrupt women (that doesn't involved sex), then maybe it wouldn't be a huge issue. I just think it goes to show you how far we are willing to accept the behavior of white men. It's an issue that's bigger than just this movie.

You can indict the audience as much as you like, but that doesn't mean they aren't going to still go home and think that Jordan Belfort is a "bad ass." I mean, everyone still loves Walter White, Don Draper etc despite how much this media shows how "bad" they are. *shrug*
