This questions is so goddamn rude - “What are you?” implies I’m some kind of object or thing, not really “normal”. I’m done with playing nice and usually go “Why do you ask?” and see how awkward it gets for them.

When I get asked the “Where are you really from?” questions I used to answer “I’m Canadian, my parents are from the Philippines” but now I just go “I’m from Canada”, then wait and see if they have the guts (or ignorance) to ask “What’s your background / ethnicity etc.” because it makes them look intrusive and awkward.…

I think what's considered an acceptable size is also affected by (often) stereotypical perceptions of race. Gina = Hispanic = curvaceous , depending on what part of the US.
