To quote Honest Trailers:

This. Especially that part about black women and "Womanist:" despite many feminists insistence that Feminism is an all encompassing word, we really don't get to choose if that is true or not. When another group, in this case black women, are saying that feminism isn't for them, we really need to listen and not just

Dude Jezebel says it is "not a feminist blog" ALL THE TIME. Mostly when it is getting negative media attention. Check our what happened with Doug Barry and Hugo Schwyzer, for instance.

Feminism as a term may be used to describe a multitude of things that are not actually feminist nowadays, but I still see it as an improvement over the MANY years that women ran away in fear rather than call themselves feminists. Also, "feminism" is a point of view and a social and political movement. "Empowering" is

It's not surrendering to say that a word that once meant something meaningful, that was once very accurate, is perhaps a bit antiquated or needs updating. Language evolves.

Thank you for your well reasoned reply. I can see where you are coming from. But, the problems with buzzwords are that they are trends. Make a quick buck using a term (today it's "selfie" and "feminism" tomorrow it will be something else) then move on to the next fad.

I haven't seen it too often. But, I'm thinking it may be a generational divide thing. I'm somewhere between a 2nd wave and 3rd wave feminist/womanist (2 1/2 wave?), so my perception of feminism is different.

You didn't reply to anything I typed. I explained why mainstream media's use of feminism is troublesome. But, you decided to ignore that to type out a snarky reply.

Yes, this is what I mean. Mainstream media has caught on that "Feminism" is the buzzword of the year and will use it to sell anything. That's why I'm always cautious of when I see things marketed towards me with those words on it. They don't care about the movement; they don't care about destroying the barriers women

Or, perhaps Katy Steinmetz is sick of the insistence on making the reclamation of "feminist" one of the top issues of the movement? That doesn't mean you guys should be quiet. It just means you could spend more time giving a shit about actual policy and activism, instead of people's identities. If you want people to

Actually I think that when so many people — many women — have an issue with a term, even when we are well aware of what feminism entails, maybe the term itself could stand for some reconsideration. I feel like the term has lost all meaning in a lot of ways: Sarah Palin calls herself a feminist, Sasha Grey calls

(Eh. Jezebel tries to shy away from being called a feminist blog so this post is kind of funny) But, I think that part of the problem is that so many things that fuel the patricarchy have been veiled in "Feminism" and "Empowering" and "Agency." I can understand why some people (the logical ones, not the trolls

This move is less lethal, but infinitely more terrifying:

I'll second this, and add the Ony Wipe Animation as nostalgia fuel lol.

Like playing two videogames for half your life. :P

There's no need to preach to me, as i don't share in your beliefs. I don't mind you having them nor you proclaiming your beliefs, but in my ears it carries no special meaning or weight.

I don't see why this should be taken any less serious than any canon or non-canon gospel. They're all written long after the events, by persons unknown who may or may not have witnessed the event, aren't supported my much else than themselves and describe a holy figure possibly based on a real person who got blown out

If only The Master had some sort of huge matrix that downloaded/uploaded dead people.
