Shark jumping definitely involves a pregnant woman held captive in the basement.

he said those roles were cast specifically based on talent and how natural/comfortable they were in front of the camera.

Alas, we'll never know. But meanwhile let's just blame Effie.

Give it a rest. It's Jason's film, he's responsible. He's an adult who went to film school. Don't they teach budgets there?

Why should they put a woman or ethnically other director if he's not qualified?

Effie didn't send a signal that she did not have his back. Joubert and Damonfleck sent an irretrievable signal that Jason could safely ignore Effie because there would be no negative consequence. Joubert and Damonfleck had his back (or so he thought).

Well, she figured there would be reshoots but she didn't know how much it was going to cost. Now suppose she had spent every penny giving Jason another car crash and didn't have money for reshoots. I guess that would be her fault too.

See, this is why only people with Hollywood connections should be allowed to make movies! We tried and it just didn't work out.

I'm thinking they picked the original script just to find a director with balls enough to call BS on it. When Jason did "That's our guy!"

And Ben, Matt and Marc kept enabling him so who's fault is that? If the point was to teach Jason something they failed him big time because they were more interested in drama than in the film

Safety and daylight. You gonna be mad at Effie about that too?

True, but it's hard to be humble when a star as big as Matt Damon's constantly saying "Oh Jason, you're a genius!" and "That Effie ain't all that!"

It's hard for me to believe that high-status, socially conscious Matt and Ben want or need a craven reality show on their CVs, one cynically manipulated to take the most talented "undiscovered" director they can find, and put him or her through a deliberately designed hell. That kind of low-status grind-house TV is

Insubordination and sabotage would have been making sure the production was out of money. Effie did her job, maybe not one thing above and beyond but she did her job.

Totally Team Effie here but damn did they toss Jason under the bus and back it up a couple of times. He's an inexperienced director - that's why they choose him. Isn't the point of mentoring somebody being alert for rookie mistakes (treating your staff like dirt, focusing on dumb stuff like film vs digital, the

I can see a person under a huge amount of stress, like Jason in this case, wanting to surround himself with people he knows and trusts. You'd think the success of shows with diverse casts, like How To Get Away With Murder and Sleepy Hollow to name a few, would encourage some out of the box thinking.
I don't know

Are there many poor or people of color in film school? I'm wondering if the whole "hire people you know" mantra is the reason there's so little diversity behind the camera. If you went to a very white school most of the people you know are going to be white.

explains a lot, doesn't it?

Maybe she's really happy to be done with those folks. Why shouldn't she be?

He doesn't go out of his way? He's the boss and he badmouths his employees behind their backs. He sees his employees struggling and he does NOTHING to rectify the situation. I've seen kindergarten teachers with more control.
And he has more to do with how the show is edited than Effie does.
