Well, i also have a concierge in the front, i figure it’s his job. And then they would need a fob to get to their specific floor. I don’t think it’s my job to police that.  But i’m with you, stopping someone and demanding proof...nah, I’m not doing that ever.

I grew up in a very rural area in the 70's and we STILL picked out all our presents from the Wish Book and fought over it. I actually miss it, it was much a part of christmas as a tree. I still have not forgiven my mom for not getting me a Shaun Cassidy “satin” jacket. The clothes in there were hilarious, and you can

I always say this is part of the reason Uber got so big. For years, blacks, men especially, have had hard times flagging down taxis. They either blatantly pass you buy or act like they don’t want to drive to your neighborhood. And Uber comes along, the transaction is nearly seamless, so for me personally, I’ve never

What a good article. I didn’t know a lot of that history.

I hadn’t read about how important Sears was in the broad sense for black folks, but I had read that it was a popular way for them to build housing if they could get a small plot of land. Get the plot of land, order one of those Sears Housing Kits that you could order through the Catalog, and then you build the house

Ok, I understand what you’re getting at.

I see people replying here saying that even asking for the FOB was OK...I live in a building, you need a FOB, for the life of me I have never “closed the door behind me” to stop someone from entering, or asked someone for “proof” to follow behind me. Even that seems insane. Am I the weird one here?

How do you know he wasn’t feeling terror? I think that is a huge assumption to make. Any encounter in which I am being denied my basic rights is upsetting, and may be terrifying if it happened in the past with unfortunate results.

I guess you missed the part where she demanded to see his key fob, he showed it to her, and that still wasn’t enough.

I will note the username and try to steer clear.

Why even be on this site if you clearly DGAF about black folks? You’ll change no hearts or minds here. How about you take the stars as a sign that you need to GTFO and be with your own kind: other bigots. But here you are, POLICING as per usual. You just can't resist. It's a fetish. Ugh.

You what privilege is? Thinking that you can equate this to a prank. You know what else is? To write that you can call the police as a prank, to know someone that has done that and ....

Well, they don’t deserve the sad shelter and abused dogs song.

Oh my god, I love love love this. Who wouldn’t enjoy a slow-mo montage with Sarah McLaughlin’s “I will remember you” paying tribute to lost jobs?

I didn’t read the article only the title, but from that I can glean its central argument. If there is any case that proves it it would be this one. She is so scared that she blocks him at the door and then proceeds to ask where he lives and the FOLLOWS HIM INTO THE CONFINED SPACE OF AN ELEVATOR and up to the place

Each of these women is making these calls not because they feel legitimately threatened, but because they need to bolster their deflating identities as “mistresses of the universe,” fully aware of the very real dangers to the Black people involved at the hand of the police.”

I really need The Root to make a Jobs in Memorium video for all the jobs lost in the line of public racism duty. There’s the Starbucks woman from Philly, The CVS man in Chicago, the Paul Blart Pool cop I feel like there’s been at least one per week like clockwork.

Give them an inch of authority and they take a mile.

Wait a minute. Wasn’t the dude visiting his sidepiece who pulled on a gun on those college kids also employed by a management company? What is it about that job?
