Lol. First time I heard Alkaline Trio, I thought it WAS Jets to Brazil. I like both bands quite easily. Of course I like JTB a tad more.

I've been out of the loop for too long, but "David Comes to Life" seems to me to be the only vital punk album to come out in a LONG time. They're also another band that owes a lot of what they do to Hot Water Music—with a melodic, experimental indie-rock edge.

I don't think it's as simple as that. He speaks of his mild enjoyment of Green Day's early output in his first few installments of this series and of his overall disinterest in The Offspring, but his observation that those two band, and their success, was the sea-change in a lot of punk rock is absolutely correct.
