So my 4 year old daughter and I were both diagnosed simultaneously with two different gastrointestinal disorders, requiring lifelong changes to diet and/or medication. So now we have to provide food at day care (they, of course, will not decrease our bill by a corresponding amount). When I dropped her off today, her…
Not always the cars, but their photography. The framing of the brake caliper is fantastic
Crowding the line in the parking lot of the whole foods
Step 1: buy
So when I get my Jeep, and order my angry face kit so everyone knows how aggressive I am, I order a set of massive wheel and tires. I get a 5th wheel for the back. What do I do with it? Is there a 5 tire rotation scheme? Does it never get used? If I don’t use it, when I get new tires, do I get 5 new tires and throw…
At a local SCCA event a few weeks ago, I was recommended another local driving club with an event this past Saturday. It was 20 minutes from my in-laws; perfect. Until somebody stuffed their M3 into a light pole just off course. Lets review all the red flags that I disregarded in the morning, shall we?
Friday at work
For the first time in 7 years, I’m going autocrossing this weekend. Since I got the Miata, I’ve replaced the thermostat, pads, rotors, rear calipers, rebuilt the shifter, and refinished two sets of wheels.
I know we’ve seen article after article about how the brand of oil doesn’t matter. But, we still have our preferences. So, what do you use? For the Miata, it’s got 170k miles and will see autocross duty. Previous owner had put in Mobil 1 synthetic.
Right? At least in spirit? My miata looks small next to the Jag. And happier.
During the search process for the Miata (which is overdue for an update), I got a lead on a rust free 95. Apparently a collector/hoarder had one and would be willing to unload. I got the guy’s contact info and sent him a text asking about mileage, if it had the limited slip, etc. Things you want to know before…
MINI GP, looking awesome and badass. I would love one of these things. The four spoke wheels have even grown on me.
I’m debating a shift knob for the Miata, specifically something from Raceseng:
I was doing the brakes on my miata, and turns out the rear passenger caliper is fucked. Dust boot ripped, piston won’t retract. The pads on that side we’re worn completely down, and the other side had decent life left. So, I can get Advance auto to get me ones tomorrow for $80 per, or Mazda on Tuesday for $120. Is…
The miata came with some nice Hankook allseasons, with some good miles left on them. The plan is to run them through this season, destroy them with some autocrosses, then get new, performance oriented tires next year. I need new brakes now, though. If I get an autocross oriented pad like the HP+, will I be outbraking…
the thing was filthy. It took a wash, clay bar, second wash, was with a random orbit, then a hand polish. The wheels are still wrecked, and the interior this afternoon, but it cleans up good! Before pic for contrast.
2001 with the sports suspension, bigger brakes, and the torsen differential. 169k for $3600. The driver seat is a little worn. Not ripped yet, bit on its way there. Wheels need refinishing. Will need new brakes soon. Clean car fax, and only very minor issues on the PPI. No rust. I’m super excited. My wife is wonderful…
Edit: never mind, sketchy odometer readings. Pass!
Looking at this 2002 NB. Brown leather interior, lsd, surface rust (small) on the rockers. Originally posted for 6000, then lowered to 5000 with the caveat of “leaving town”. So I low-balled him, he said he’d rather take it with him for that price, countered with 4500. Willing to do a PPI. Thoughts?
