Having just finished the book seconds ago, I would have said that he wrote a requiem, surely for the slaughtered multitude and perhaps his own. Having just, this instant, learned that he died a few days ago, I am now sure. A small panel from a magisterial Rose window, it is yet a masterpiece. RIP
