@Shadow-Lurker: Yeah, I'm pretty sure I was having the problems you're talking about. If I had a profile set at 480 min @ battery < 99%, and another set at 245 min @ battery < 70%, and they were both the same priority, the cpu would stay at the higher speed.
I use MyTracks on my G1, and I love it; however, I didn't even know these other apps existed, so I'll definitely give them a try. Endomondo looks especially awesome...

@sn1per: I've had my G1 rooted since rooting became hip, and the main apps that I've used (that require root) are WiFi Tether and SetCPU. I don't know that SetCPU will work on the Captivate right off the bat, but WiFi tether most likely will - and it's free.
