Well, that helps explain the RX-8 that went up in flames at the stoplight outside my office. Actually being serious, car started smoking and quickly was engulfed in flames.

My 335 w/MPPK makes the same kind of sounds...when your head is actually inside the exhaust as you downshift from 3-2 at 30mph. Inside the car though, not really perceptible.
