Same! Isn't it so much better to be fat and happy than skinny and miserable?

Agreed, they definitely could have gone with a different casting choice. FWIW, I think her character was supposed to be part white? (I could be wrong, but I’m remembering something her mom said to her dad in a flashback about how she “got this from your white grandpa” or something)
First, your username is tremendous!
Hmm, you could be right, and maybe I’m already hypersensitive to the lack of representation of women in a lot of “geek culture.” It just strikes me as odd that it goes without saying that all of the male nerd/genius characters are also geeks, but none of the female nerd/genius characters are interested in that at all…
You just described my college boyfriend (I was frequently treated to a long list of all the DOPE shit that came from Seattle, eyeroll forever)
*YUUUUUUUGE
Same thing happened when I tried to argue with an anti-vax acquaintance. I came with facts, and she asked why we couldn’t just “each have our own opinions.” It’s like they don’t understand that just *having* an opinion doesn’t necessarily give that opinion any value. Some opinions are wrong.
That’s one of my bones of contention, too – since Amy and Bernadette are presented as nerd-ladies, the fact that they’re seemingly as mystified by nerd stuff as the “dumb blonde” Penny (ugh) is just puzzles me.
I’d skip both and only be friends with Mariska Hargitay. Olivia Benson forever!
I was lucky enough to see him with my dad a few years back, and it’s still in my top 3 live shows ever. Not only can he still kill it on stage, but he has such a genuinely kind presence (and really knows how to wear a suit)
Co-signed. Nobody insults my imaginary grandpa Tony.
I definitely see what you mean, but I still think TSA screwed up big time. The story behind the camera equipment and costumes would have been a very easy one to corroborate, since these women are already well known in Korea. It shouldn’t have taken 7 (or 15, or whichever account is correct) hours for TSA & ICE to…
This is exactly how I feel. Like, I’d definitely do it, but I wouldn’t feel good about it.
She also said that his family isn’t the bad kind of immigrants, because “Catholic counts as Christian.”
One of my more racist relatives was shocked when I responded to her support for Donald Trump’s Mexico wall by telling her that my boyfriend is first generation American, and his family is from Mexico. She loves him, and apparently had no idea he came from immigrants because he “talks so American.” I die.
That's it, this is why I'm coming to Canada. Save a beer for me.
I’ve seen both of those things, so I guess we’re at an anecdotal stalemate!
That’s totally fair, and I agree (my 5th grade bully called me the human dictionary, hah). I was just thinking of that specific kind of annoying person - usually their vocabulary isn’t even that great, they just have a few arcane/obscure words they like to trot out for attention.
Neither do I (as I told the other commenters who inquired/accused), I was just thinking of another type of annoying person.
Oh I wasn’t comparing the two at all (everyone should know what idiosyncratic means), just mentioning the second-worst kind of person (IMO) after the intentional misunderstander.
