Even when there IS a set uniform, it’s all about policing girls. My (tiny private religious) high school used to make us kneel down so a teacher could use a ruler to measure the distance between our skirts and the ground.

That’s my guess as well. When I write ad copy for a digital campaign, it goes through 3-4 people here and 6-10 people on the client side – and those are campaigns that can be paused/edited at any time! There’s just no excuse

This! Racism exists separately from intent. You don’t have to think something you’re saying is racist for it to be super racist.

Your hair sounds like mine! Mine is flat and fine so it won’t hold a curl (but there’s also a lot of it somehow?) The other day I tried to do a fancy braid crown and almost flung myself off the balcony.

I think you just made my Friday night plans for me

It’s the conservative version of “I only hang out with guys, girls are too much DRAMAAAA.” The sad part is, women like Butt think that if they just throw other women under the bus enough, they’ll eventually be accepted by the men they so desperately want to impress (but those men hate women, so...)

YES. There is no such thing as a bruised-heart playlist without Jeff Buckley.

Co-signed. They made that song into something special

I would 100% do freelance copyediting for Jezebel (I do it in my head all day, anyway)

racism was not the talk of the country nor had we ever witnessed the true power of social media, twitter was still fresh and we had never heard of anyone getting in trouble for posting anything on social media

Truth. The second I hear a Sarah McLachlan song I dive for the remote – I just can’t handle those sad animals in the snow :( :( :(

Mark, I hope you're already following Calming Manatee on Tumblr - it's wonderful

Ding ding ding! There it is! I’m not even sure she realized she was betraying her bias that fat shaming is unfortunate, but expected because fat = gross.

I suppose it could be different had she thought of/phrased it that way. But instead, she turned it into the oppression Olympics, which is the dumbest possible approach.

I have an acquaintance who would interrupt EVERY. SINGLE. conversation about fat shaming with the story about how some guys on the street once told her to “eat a sandwich” and that skinny shaming was even worse than fat shaming because “being skinny isn’t my fault.” O_o (she’s not invited to happy hour anymore)

Now I've got the Touched By an Angel theme song stuck in my head, but I can't be mad because DELLA REESE

Same. That book meant a lot to me from the ages of 12-14 (no, 12-27, let’s be honest).

Sports was the first example I thought of, too. My grandpa was a sports radio broadcaster and my dad was a sportswriter for most of my life, so I grew up tagging along to NFL training camps/golf tournaments and helping transcribe interview notes. Once, when I told a particularly mansplainy dude I met at a party that I

The worst part is that when this fails (because the clothing is terrible), they'll go back to carrying super limited plus size options and say something about how "the market isn't there" (HAHA)

Yes! The green dress is at the top of my list. I'm even tempted by those blue pom pom shorts
