I feel like a lot of their appeal lay in the fact that they could hang with the performance cars of their time for a lot less money. As time went on performance cars got faster and better, and the STI/EVO kind of stagnated. They got bigger, heavier, and more expensive without necessarily scaling up performance to

In a model 3 you can move very slow, it’s not an on/off switch. I do it everyday parking without problem. The model 3 is limited to 15 mph in reverse anyway, much slower than an ICE vehicle.

Only with a life shortening hard launch. This is a small motor with a big turbo, it’s going to be laggy and easily defeated in typical stop light matchup unless you don’t care about how it holds up long term.

Everyone else matched STI performance without STI’s compromises for performance:

The STI has insane margins though. One STI was probably as profitable as five Imprezas. That’s exactly the reason they kept it around this long. That, and it brought a lot of young, wealthy buyers into the brand.

I agree mass is a big consideration, so is gearing, turbo lag, etc. Look at this reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/cars/comments/i6qdmx/launch_control_is_silly_i_compiled_and_sorted_a/

Really the only significant performance advantage the Corolla might have is weight

This certainly would scratch an itch left by the loss of the WRX hatch in the US.

You want to embarrass owners of fine, exotic automobiles.

That’s the FRONT bumper of the Tesla that’s on the ambulance roof. It would be pretty hard to end up that way if they were driving in reverse.

Yes, as bad as “Autopilot” is at, ya know, driving, the actual meat drivers of Teslas are still worse.
Maybe that’s the intent.  While the advertising says “Autopilot can be/will be/is safer than an organic driver, what they’re leaving out is that it’s just safer than the average Tesla stan.

All ethanol for vehicle use is a mistake. It’s just so stupidly wasteful all around. But it makes money for some big corn producers, so here we are.

I don’t even grok how someone could not see that crypto has zero real base guaranteeing its value. Crypto currencies are only kept afloat through the juxtaposition of faith and criminality.

Agreed!  It is a fantastic deal.  Especially if you just want at truck to be... you know... a truck.  Hearing someone complain about the interior of an entry level truck not being ‘up-scale’ enough is like bad reviews of 13" laptops that complain the screen is too small.

I thought of the Fusion Energi as the apex of the American family sedan: combining comfort with competence and delivering better gas mileage than I’d ever imagined in something of that size. Nice looking too. Even in airport rental fleet trim and after a few tens of thousands of miles of that sometimes ungentle use, it

My fiancée wants a Maverick as her first new car in a while. I mean, this is something that gets within spitting distance of her Prius fuel economy but can also easily haul the car and motorcycle crap that I buy. The truck’s a win/win for her situation.

I’ll give you some insight from someone who sold Fords for 23 years (I started in 1997 at 20yrs old to Jan 31 2020 when I left due to severe Crohn’s Disease). I’m met Hau Tai-Tang. He’s a brilliant engineer and a true car guy (met him when he was the lead on the S197 Mustang in 2006 in Carlisle). He truly knows his

Let’s take it one step further:

Exactly.

Car makers: ‘Merica only wants Trucks and SUVs, so that’s what we make
