That is why UPS trucks almost never make left turns....
It’s great they do this, not only because unprotected left turns are a challenge for the machine, but because they’re dangerous, in general. Humans should try to avoid them, too.
It would still be a problem because it’s unsafe software being beta-tested on public roads.
By my job somebody actually died because of that.
That was something I noticed as well. I was always taught the same: Keep the wheel straight so that if you are rear ended, you will not be pushed into oncoming traffic.
to all the people sucking Elon’s dick in the comments: Jalopnik reports on Tesla’s FSD failures because TESLA MARKETS THEIR VEHICLES AS SELF DRIVING. If Tesla didnt advertise their vehicles as self driving, this wouldn't be a problem.
Am I the only one bothered by the fact that the car is angled into traffic and the wheel is turned waiting for the opportunity to make the left turn?
Did you watch the video at all? she linked it at the time stamp to show all the turns. The sketchy one was the last aborted left turn. The system didn’t detect a truck AND a truck towing a boat as a moving target (yellow designation instead of the blue in the other attempts) and was literally about to pull in front of…
Skip the rest until the end. That last turn was sketchy as fuck and the system didn’t detect the giant chevy truck towing the boat and the other dodge truck until way too late.
It’s not even the automotive jackassery that scares me the most
My boss used to bike in to work. One day, he rode over a razor blade
that someone had embedded into the asphalt, sharp edge up, in the bike lane
IDK, I don’t think I’ve ever put the ball in the hole in my life, so doing that 8 times in one game seems impressive to me.
I see people driving stupidly in their 3000+ lb cars all the time in the city I live. Including *in* the bike lanes. All. The. Time. Yet when a cyclist gets hit by a car, the chorus of “well, bicycle riders don’t always stop at stop signs- they are the dangerous ones!” from the Nextdoor crowd is overwhelming. WTF is…
Several years ago, a car pushed me into a curb and send me over the handlebars, where my short flight was interrupted by a utility pole.
I don’t often agree with you Bradley but I am solidly in your camp on this.
That is a perfectly normal situation any meatbag is expected to be able to negotiate. The car probably tried as hard as it was programmed to notify the idiot that he needed to take over. This also shows the natural complacency and lack of attention people fall into when they’re not required to be actively engaged in…
And the differences in weight between those vehicles are basically meaningless when it comes to road wear, because:
I don’t disagree that vehicles that put more strain on infrastructure should pay more...we just need to keep in mind that is not just going to be big trucks.
“For light trucks and cars, road wear due to weight is negligible, especially compared to the use of studded tires.
of course, some of the heaviest vehicles for a given tire size are going to be EV’s
I’m just here for these comments so I can specifically NOT click on the impending slideshow.
