@bi1yeu: How does one weigh the cause of peace between your first paragraph and your second? I put more weight on your second, while many put more on the first. What I do know is the diplomacy, medical technology component moves our world forward and benefits all, while nuclear weapons are costly (4 trillion dollars

@Traveshamockery: In this case, correlation does not imply causation, because the cause of peace could as easily be attributed to the work of the U.N. and NATO or the advent of instant world wide communications resulting in the reduction of fear and misunderstandings between nation states.

I’m betting that it was caused by a trojan virus inserted by a foreign entity. They decided to bring them down as a test to see if they could take control and now they know it worked. Someone had already inserted a worm into the power grid this past spring ([news.techworld.com] and now they’re raising the stakes.

@pdok: Yeah - I guess I got a little ticked there for a bit. No offense intended - just a bit of good jousting. I'd like to see some of your figures related to the amount of money spent on stimulous that you're referencing in your first paragraph. Secondly, how much of this money actually helps our country's

I'd rather have a 5 inch pearl screen on top and a 3.5 inch LCD on the bottom that can be used as it is now on the current gen Nook, but also will run full android apps. That would add what, an inch maybe to the size of the current Nook, but would allow reading on the big screen, and games, videos and navigation on

@Dogen: Excellent post. Hearted....

@pdok: How do you see our government as being liberal? Do you mean by making deals with the insurance and drug companies to keep them making profits at the expense of the citizens? Do you mean by the secret renditions of people out of this country so they can be tortured in Syria? I suppose that it's liberal in

This is a stupid article plain and simple. With very little analysis, one can determine that many companies paid zero taxes last year, and some even got money back from the government. So why is this focusing on Google?

@El Guano: I'm just in the middle of "Aftermath - Remnants of War" by Donovan Webster, about the leftover ordinance from wars. Right now, I'm reading about all the shells (millions and millions) that are lying on and under the ground in France in closed off areas called Cordon Rouges. The shells are very similar to

@parabellum2000: Yes, but just think about all the people who would scream about birds flying into the beam. It would be something like a billion birds killed a day according to those who always complain about birds and wind turbines. That and the 747's flying through it getting cut in half. Now there's an action

Interesting to watch the load bearing crane on the forefront of the new building deflect so much as it moves up stuff from one side to the other. It must deflect a total of 20 feet or more as it carries the load up. It's a wonder more of those don't fall over.

@renafuse: Even though that wasn't funny in the least, it does make the point that they've had 9 years to make something there and haven't done crap.

@moonshadowkati: I thought they had problems in Europe doing this as it started to produce earthquakes in the area they were drilling. Yes - here's a link discussing just this.

@phillyt45: Hard to say how often fires occur - I know here where I'm a fireman in upstate NY, we get over 1000 calls a year.

@phillyt45: The reason that you would pay the 75 bucks was because you didn't want to pay $5,000 after-the-fact. Same thing as any insurance - you pay up front in case something bad happens, but here's the difference, if you don't have health insurance and have a heart attack, the hospital will still treat you, but

@Perk-i: I assume the picture if the actual car on the ground is really of the car in question, and if so, it looks like the two front wheels are stuck between the fence (which is right above a cliff, and the wall. His back right wheel seems to be almost off the cliff as it seems to have backed over the fence, so I

Anyone have any idea of what the rungs are made of? Looks like hickory to me - certainly doesn't look like doug-fir.

@turwaith: I agree - I just looked at the Kindle3 at target yesterday and then went and looked at the Nook at B&N. The Kindle3 was better looking and thinner, and the page turn buttons were much less hard to click, but the e-ink seemed very similar (even though held together, they probably aren't, when you don't look

@Carrick1973: Ok - I'm wrong - they aren't doing stationary wake boarding, but doing what you thought they were. 4 seconds of stupidity followed by pain I guess FTW???

@spydr101: No, no, no - the boarder stays stationary - the car doesn't move - it's just there as an anchor. The water being pushed out from the fountain is what causes the action against the board - kind of like a stationary wave.
