if it reduces crashes by 1% its an effective system
As a fellow driving enthusiast, I would like to point out that the road is full of people who have nothing but contempt for operating a motor vehicle. The road is full of people looking at their phones instead of the road. As much as I hate the idea of auto-pilot in my car, I would very much like for something else to…
They aren’t based solely upon tickets. If you’ve crashed a few times you may not have earned a single ticket nut your premium is still going to be high.
After you conveniently skip past
How someone can be so short sighted to not see self driving cars as the future is insane.
1: You’re not alone, I also prefer driving... like, 99% of the time.
They are based on who gets ticketed more often. The problem is there is a gender and ethnicity bias at play here. Men are far more likely to receive a ticket for the same offense, as are minorities. http://www-personal.umich.edu/~rowebr/pdfs/rowe_policegenderbias_sep09.pdf
New stuff isn’t created from nothing overnight. This technology is new, and its not perfect, but honestly, its doing pretty damn good, relatively speaking. Tesla doesn’t claim it to be perfect, which is why the use of the system is absolutely covered with warnings, instructions and disclaimers.
Insurance rates are determined solely on the basis of who crashes more, not hurr-durr ideas about competence behind the wheel.
Autopilot is Tesla’s brand name for their driver assist suite. So of course you won’t hear any other car brand using that term. Nissan has ProPilot, Cadillac has Super Cruise, Audi has Traffic Jam Pilot, Mercedes has Drive Pilot, Volvo has Pilot Assist. Tesla got the cool name because it was one of the first in the…
You are correct. Honestly this might be a bad take but I’m beginning to feel like Tesla is attracting the stupid drivers. The ones that can’t be told no, or that they actually need to do something, or the ones that can’t be bothered to pay attention. They know its a beta yet here we are.
A common thread among all these crashes, in addition to the driver apparently not paying attention, is that they seem to involve a collision with a stationary truck in a spot where it doesn’t have much or any bodywork that extends down to bumper level.
I wonder if the system is getting confused and thinking these are…
“Drivers are taking their eyes off the road without concerns because they bought a system that says it drives for them.”
Engine displacement is not a function of compression ratio. It is purely the volume created by the swept travel of the piston area over the stroke. What you are thinking of is combustion volume.
