Nah, he’s the first black Presiding Bishop. There have been black bishops in the Episcopal Church since the 1800's, and in the US since the 60's. Michael Curry is great, though. He’s loving, kind, and 100% not here for anybody’s racist foolishness. My bff was hanging out with him last week and I g a g g e d.

It seems counterintutive, but when I serve it as a single layer, I sift over a generous glass sugar (powdered or confectioners sugar).

Do you think I could get ungrayed? I’ve been here for years and somehow have stayed permagray. Gracias!

Bringing you out of the grays for this

“And yet somehow I’m still just unbelievably gorgeous. I amaze even myself. I can’t believe Horatio is four already, and yet none of us look a day older.”

Let me know how it works out!

It really is, and not “good for a vegan cake”...it’s just plain good. FWIW, butter, especially browned butter, is usually well-tolerated in baked goods by people who are lactose intolerant. Plus darkly browned butter, which I use in the standard recipe, is essentially lactose free.

If you’re looking for dessert, the basic chocolate cake I use can easily convert for vegan clients. It’s deeply chocolately without being oppressive, cuts beautifully, and has a nice springy texture. It’s fancy while still being accessible to kids and picky eaters, plus it makes for an impressively tall layer. The

From Día de los Muertos through Tres Reyes (so basically Halloween-the 1st week of January) we have a constantly replenished crock of ponche/mulled wine going. There’s no set recipe and it evolves over time as various things get added and others strained out. Usually though, we start with something like this:

I promise, if I had the answer on how to cultivate vanilla cheaply and easily, I would be Scrooge McDuck-ing it in an olympic pool of money instead of being grateful I’m only paying $468/kilo for vanilla (I’ve got a hookup in Veracruz).

They’ve been trying to do that since the the Spanish Conquest. Vanilla is just incredibly difficult and finicky to cultivate. Vanilla only really wants to grow in a small region of Mexico and it doesn’t enjoy being messed with. Everywhere else it’s grown it’s cultivated at considerable time, labor, and expense. The

People are the worst. FWIW, those earplugs are super easy to sleep in. It takes a night or two to adjust (plus if you don’t know how to put earplugs in properly it can feel weird until you figure out how to get them situated) but they’re soft and once they’re in, I never notice them. I sleep better, but I can still

I have ultra-sensitive hearing and am prone to headaches and overstimulation. What’s been a lifesaver for me are the blue Hearos earplugs. I can still hear just fine with them in, unless someone’s talking to me from another room, but it does mute out a lot of the ambient noise and dampens the volume. I can have

This was exactly my thought. I’m a Madrista but Benzema is trash and I can’t wait until he leaves.

The last time I got a box of Cracker Jacks it was deadass a scratch-off coupon for Sabritas, the Mexican version Lays potato chips. Not even a free bag of potato chips, a coupon. I’m still mad about it.

Monique, you are a treasure.

I literally gasped.

I had no idea she did Mrs Eisenhower’s bag (in mamie pink, of course). I love whimsical figural bags in general, and although I never really responded to Leiber’s minaudieres specifically, there’s no denying the craftsmanship.

I hated the IP until I realized for me, it’s not a technique solution; it’s a comfort solution. It keeps the house cooler and less humid which is nice but the biggest deal is cooking smells.

Not surprisingly, ours is a refritos-loving household and I can 100% say black-eyed peas done with garlic, a ton of rosemary and all the black pepper in the world is a revelation.
