I gotta wonder what they can do to limit airliner emissions; those big high-bypass turbofans are pretty efficient already. Mount a huge catalytic converter aft of the turbine stage? And the airlines are already dumping inefficient planes—like the 747 (makes me sad)—already.

Sorry, but anyone who bought the ‘Clean Diesel’ fraud deserves what she gets. I’ve worked with diesel for years, filling tractors and farm equipment; it’s oily and stinky and its particulate pollutants are deadly (not an acceptable fuel for cars). If you really need a diesel monster truck for towing, fine, but those

The Austin-Healey 100—built 1954-1956—was so-named because it could top 100MPH. Donald Healey went to Bonneville to prove it:

Recovery is actually 89.5% likely; she rounded up.

re: “... 2,200 pounds is the standard weight estimate for a yard of soil.”

Now where did I write that the Coyote wasn’t the superior engine? My point was the 4.6 wasn’t a piece of junk, and the noises coming from the Coyote are driving some people crazy (check the forums; they don’t throw codes and I can’t hear them in the cabin so they don’t bother me, yet). Your 2nd gen Coyote doesn’t have

I’ve been downplaying the value of an (assumed) Coyote-in-Bronco pairing, but I’d forgotten about Ford’s new pushrod V8 truck engine. THAT engine in a Bronco would be a monster!

Exactly.

The Coyote if pretty wimpy in the off-idle torque department; my old British sports cars with long-stroke quasi-truck engines have more.

I had the 4.6 in my ‘08 Bullitt, and have the 5.0 in my ‘19 Bullitt. Yes, the Coyote is a screamer, but the 4.6 was simpler and quieter (the engine, anyway, exhaust is another issue). The Coyote makes a lot of clickety noises (google ‘Coyote B-B-Q tick’ or ‘Coyote 2K rattle’ if you don’t believe me). I’m actually a

re: “First year Mustang didn’t have a V8 either.”

Presumably, the ‘V8' some people think should be in the new Bronco is the 5.0 Coyote. I have a Coyote in my Bullitt, and I don’t think it would be a good off-road engine anyway (I’m not an off-roader per se). It has minimal torque below 2,000 RPM—the forums are pretty much in agreement on this (it does rev like a

I owned a Brat once. No thanks. Damn thing did go almost 200K miles for me and two of my nephews.

Yeah, I’m not necessarily a Jeep fan, but I serviced a couple XJs for an ex-GF and my son—his was a 4-banger--and grew to like them (almost bought one for myself). The 4.0 is a great engine, but has one well-known flaw: The ‘tubular’—i.e. not cast iron—exhaust manifold would crack, usually at about 150K miles. All the

I have a Coyote in my Bullitt; it doesn’t have enough torque down low to be a good engine for a crawler--IMO, of course--but it winds up like a mo-fo.

Low-end torque isn’t the Coyote’s thing (I have a ‘19 Bullitt). For off-road, I think a Winsor stroker might(?) be mo bettah’.

‘The Bronco’s terrain response system is being called “G.O.A.T.” (Goes Over All Terrain, or maybe it’s Any Terrain, anyway...)‘

The backstory:

FWIW, I haven’t seen this kind of ‘buzz’ for a vehicle since the Mustang first came out (the Raptor was mind-blowing, given it came out in a recession, but it seemed to come out of nowhere).

You won’t be able to get one—without huge dealer mark-up—for a year at least* anyway. By then, any fatal flaws should be known.
