In February I bought a factory order 2019 M2 Competition with the 6-speed manual transmission.

Yeah, probably not “purist.” Just “enthusiasts” who like their cars to sound nice and not blatty and crappy. There are many good-sounding 4-cylinder cars out there, Porsche 356s and 944s among them. But the 718 sounds particularly annoying and cheap.

To be fair, it was a flat 4 turbo.

Yeah, I love how everybody is reading this as the 6cyl won because of us. Like Porsche wouldn’t keep making a 4cyl Cayman if it made them money. The real story is Porsche brought back the 6 (or intentionally put it on a short hiatus) because money. We can all enjoy the products without making it about who won and

All rumors point towards the next-generation Boxster/Cayman going electric, so I suspect the unloved 4-pots are, indeed, going away for good.

I think they’re both just saying the writing is on the wall for the 4-cylinder cars and i’m inclined to agree. The experiment was not a success, and the next generation will get a flat 6 in the base model. Or at least that’s the speculation.

Am I missing something or is the 4-pot going away? Because the wording, both here and by Harris, seems to indicate that the GT4/Spyder is the new base model, which surely is not the case.

Swap it into the BRZ/86 and solve all it’s problems at once.

I’ll keep my eye out and see if I can get anything on my future commutes. Maybe I’ll just a dashcam. I didn’t get any the other day, and its impossible to predict when they drive around off the line for test drives.

They were final products off the assembly line out for a final test drive. Done every day. These were definitely not mules. They polished and complete. They wouldn’t badge up a mule to test powertrain

Can confirm that these are ready and on the road. Challenger/Charger/300 plant is on my way to work and they test drive through the area every day. So I usually see at least 10ish cars on my way into work.

I think it’ll all come down to what legal definition of “operable” they decide on. Runs and drives? Or legal to operate on a public roadway?

As someone who manufacturers vehicles for a living - just know that you are likely creating a death trap if you are ever in a major accident. We need to follow FMVSS regulations carefully and your car was crash tested with specific seat anchoring and components. If the seats are not an exact match the airbag, SRS
