U-Haul and other rental-fleets are a big part of the reason. They beg Ford to keep making this engine because idiots average Americans are afraid of diesel.

They’re perfect for snow-plowing too. The diesel engine is thousands extra, that will buy you a lot of gasoline. Working as a plow truck, the diesel won’t get much better mileage than the gas motor anyway, and then there’s the maintenance too, not to mention how smooth they are.

What’s wrong with the Chevy Volt. Owners typically love them. I’d take a Volt over a any of the comparable hybrids out there today.
