Real question. Prerty much whenever anyone anywhere criticizes Trump, many conservatives immediately bring up Clinton. Why is that? Personally, I mourn Clinton’s loss, but she is a political dead letter. Why do you keep bringing her up?

That’s even worse. I am all for language evolving and new slang, but Latinx is just awful. I couldn’t bear to read the article, although I am in general agreement with its sentiments.

Without getting into the specifics of what that guy said, I am going to offer a minority anecdote.

Protest is protest. They made a statement to those who could hear them. Their bosses heard them. I heard them. Jezebel amplified their message so you heard them. It might have been less subtle if, say, they had worn red burkhas a la The Handmaid’s Tale, but that would have been dismissed by many as childish…

People post stuff like this because they think other people will think them cool for it. They don’t think it’s really wrong, and they certainly don’t think it’s illegal.

I grew up in Texas and Oklahoma. Oklahoma is everything you think Texas is, only more so. Texas has large metropolitan, cosmopolitan cities with many decent people who live in them. Gerrymandering has silenced progressive Texans, and it’s awful.   

Same for aging.

How do you become ugly to these people? How do you offend them? Age without apology. I am 50, and many men are ENRAGED at the mere sight of me. I wear lipstick as protection, because my unmadeup visage engenders such hostility.

It’s all going to be a fucking disaster for women, especially poor, rural women. Breaks my cold, liberal, urban heart. Truly.

My book group read Underground Railroad, and it was the only book we’ve read so far that got unanimous thumbs up. In addition to being an Important Book, it is a great read. Enjoy!
