Well, at this point it is a fantasy show written for TV, possibly by the best producers in world, but certainly by peopl who are at best mediocre screenplay writers.

I think the problem is exposing your equipment and yourself to the disease. Though considering they were already doing inspections earlier, it wasn't really carried over how infectious the disease is, and how scared they were of it.

I think they dispensed enzymes, and somehow that created the bacteria. But yeah, Doctor Who has never been hard sci-fi or even fantasy.
