Alexis is a girl's name, I think. That would make a sexual initiator who is female. It doesn't suggest that women can rape, but it does suggest that women can have sexual desire and initiate sex. I think that's a fairly good balance.
That sucks. I hope it wasn't too traumatizing. And I hope they learned to stop being little twerkwads.
I'm not sure if Catholics do this, but Protestants have a separate daily lectionary that has separate readings from the Sunday lectionary. So Sundays will get you through all the Bible over three years, and the Daily lectionary will get you through the Bible on your own in one year.
I remember learning that when I was a kid. I used to not throw people in pools. But then I saw that guys that threw girls in the pool got attention/girlfriends, and so I started doing it. Now I'm older (and the girls I hang out with are a lot smarter/more mature), and I'm a really big fan of consent. But it was…
I'm sorry that happened to you. It shouldn't happen to anyone. Period.
Funny how they only do this to young, pretty girls.
I don't really know much about the Catholic lectionary, but the Protestant lectionary (used by a lot of mainline denominations) is designed to force the church to go through the entire Bible over three years. The idea is to prevent church from becoming just the pastor's favorite passages.
This is totally one of my favorite new hobbies.
I've always made it a point to try and be extra patient with kids/parents with kids who are out in public, under the assumption that I will someday have kids, and I'll want them to be patient with me.
Has everyone missed the founders stating in court documents that it was explicitly designed for sexting?
The data is there: http://www.catalyst.org/media/companie…. Also the idea that if someone has a wife or girlfriend they suddenly have a female perspective is ridiculous. I don't know about you, but I don't think that my significant other who works in a completely different field and knows next to nothing about mine…
That's a pretty naive comment. The women may indeed be better employees/traders/bankers, but without massive amounts of capital, a brand name that's been dominant for thirty years, established relationships with tons of major big name clients, and a network of support staff to help you do it, it's not very possible. A…
I'm a Michigan fan. And I was totally down with this until he tried to make it about the UM-ND rivalry.
That's not actually true. Committing a felony does not make you a felon. Being convicted of a felony makes you a felon. It's the whole innocent-until-proven-guilty thing. Don't worry about it though. Common mistake.
I think you may be right, a lot of left-leaning churches stay quiet on political matters rather than upset the conservatives within their churches. I still think that right-wingers are over-covered relative to their own importance in Christian communities. We hear literally every crazy thing that Pat Robertson says…
This is a really good idea to promote tolerance among all Christians. A lot of Christians don't support LBGTQ persons because they've been told all their lives that they can't. If a lot of Christians who actively do support them stand up and explain their views, they'll make a lot of room for folks that didn't know…
I'm not sure that right wingers scream the loudest so much as we click on the hateful things that they say rather than loving things that nice people say. You get a lot more pageviews/eyeballs complaining about the latest asshole than covering the people who are actually doing something about it.
One of the most frustrating things about being a progressive Christian is watching conservative Christians take the exact language you were using to promote tolerance, love and care for our neighbors and use it to be manipulative, judgmental assholes. There are so many things I can no longer say because some…
There are several Presbyterian Churches from several schisms over the last century. The woman in question comes from All Saint's Presbyterian Church, which is a PCA church. PCA is a conservative schism group from the late 70's early 80's. They split because they didn't want to ordain women as leaders or ministers in…
